Rani Durgavati University: 47-Day Strike Continues, Demand for Vice-Chancellor's Removal

Ongoing Strike and Demands

Jabalpur | September 22, 2026 | The relay hunger strike by the Non-Teaching Employees Union at Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur, demanding the resolution of their pending issues and protesting administrative mismanagement, entered its 47th day today.

The Employees Union has accused the university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rajesh Verma, of showing serious indifference towards the legitimate demands of the employees. The protesting employees stated that despite 47 days of continuous protest, multiple memorandums, and negotiations, no concrete decisions have been made on critical matters such as promotions, salary disparities, compassionate appointments, and pensions.

Administrative Chaos and Academic Impact

The Employees Union highlighted a severe lack of coordination within the university administration. According to them, this situation has led to constant conflicts and indecisiveness in administrative functioning. This chaos is now directly impacting the academic lives of the university's students.

A recent incident where questions unrelated to the syllabus were asked in the BA-LLB Fourth Semester examination has raised serious questions about the university's operational efficiency. Prior to this, results had to be revised in the RDVV examination case after 20 questions were found to be erroneous, causing financial losses to the university and delaying the academic session.

Questions on Vice-Chancellor's Appointment and Conduct

The Employees Union has previously lodged several objections regarding the appointment and functioning of the Vice-Chancellor. The union emphasized that the matter related to the Vice-Chancellor's qualifications is currently pending in the High Court.

Furthermore, an alleged incident of misconduct towards a female officer at the university is also under judicial process. In light of these serious circumstances, the Employees Union has now begun contacting public representatives.

Petition to Public Representatives and Call for Section 52

Union officials have submitted letters signed in their own blood to Members of Parliament and MLAs, strongly pressing their demand for the Vice-Chancellor's removal from his post.

The union has urged the government to implement Section 52 in the university. The implementation of this section would allow for a high-level review of the institution's administrative and academic system, enabling the identification of the root causes of the problems.

Support and Future Course of Action

Support for the strike is also being received from various social and labor organizations at the protest site. Union officials have issued a clear warning that mere verbal assurances will no longer suffice; they require clear and written orders for the resolution of employees' problems.

This movement will continue to a decisive end until all demands are fully resolved.
