Concerns Mount Over Hostel Management

Local residents in the Devri assembly constituency of Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, have raised serious questions regarding the administration of nearly 10 government hostels. Worries have been expressed about student safety, food quality, and departmental oversight at these hostels located in areas like Gaurjhamar, Kesli, Sahjpur, and Maharajpur.

A primary concern for parents is the nocturnal absence of hostel wardens, which raises significant questions about the safety of the children. The most debated aspect of the current system is the decision to assign additional charge of multiple hostels to a single warden.

Complainants argue that it is practically impossible for wardens to provide adequate attention and regular supervision to any single hostel under these circumstances. Residents questioned the administrative logic of assigning additional responsibilities to a warden if irregularities or complaints are already pending against them.

Demand for Investigation and Financial Irregularity Fears

In light of these serious allegations, locals have intensified their demand for an administrative-level investigation. They are urging for surprise inspections of these hostels by a district-level team.

Residents are also calling for a review of all additional charge orders issued over the past year. They demand physical verification of records related to food, materials, stock registers, and budget expenditure at each hostel.

It is crucial to ensure that students are provided with clean drinking water, electricity, and meals according to the prescribed menu, in line with government regulations.

Appeal for Departmental Intervention

Amidst these questions surrounding hostel arrangements, the role of departmental officials is also under scrutiny. Locals have appealed to senior officials of the Tribal Affairs Department to personally visit and assess the situation.

If any financial or administrative irregularities are found during the investigation, strict action should be taken as per rules. Furthermore, clarification has been sought regarding the alleged negligence in ensuring child safety, so that the future and security of students studying in hostels are not compromised.
