Traffic System Overhaul for Diwali
The District Administration in Damoh has taken decisive steps to ensure smoother traffic flow and relieve citizens from congestion during the upcoming Diwali festive season. A high-level meeting, chaired by Collector Pratap Narayan Yadav, saw the issuance of clear directives for immediate repair of potholes on city roads, rectification of bridge deficiencies, and the activation of three new parking facilities.
Superintendent of Police Anand Kaladgi was also present, underscoring the administration's commitment to city safety and traffic management. Collector Yadav emphasized that ensuring safe transit for citizens is the administration's utmost priority. This includes the prompt filling of all potholes on city roads within a stipulated timeframe.
Furthermore, immediate action will be taken to address safety concerns on bridges, such as exposed reinforcement bars, to prevent any potential accidents. With the anticipated surge in market crowds during Diwali, the Collector instructed the Municipal Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) to swiftly operationalize the three selected new parking sites. These new locations are expected to significantly aid in managing vehicular pressure.
Addressing Encroachments and Enhancing Facilities
Concerns regarding traffic obstruction caused by encroachments on footpaths and shopkeepers extending their businesses were also raised during the meeting. Collector Yadav appealed to city shopkeepers to display their goods only within the designated limits outside their establishments. Traders found illegally occupying footpaths will be offered alternative space within the Tehsil premises.
Additionally, there is a plan to develop the Shrikhand School premises into a parking area by removing existing encroachments. This initiative aims to reduce vehicular density in the main market area, providing convenience for shoppers. The auto parking facility at Ambedkar Chowk will also be made more convenient and organized.
The Collector stressed that the administration's primary goal is to improve the traffic system without negatively impacting traders' businesses, while also ensuring citizens do not face congestion issues during their shopping trips. Relevant officials have been directed to ensure all these arrangements are fully implemented and functioning effectively before Diwali, providing residents with a smooth commuting experience during the festive period.
