Traffic Police Tackle Illegal Tempo Stands at Lal Gate

In an effort to streamline traffic flow in Farrukhabad city, the traffic police conducted a special campaign on Tuesday afternoon along the Lal Gate-Thandi Sadak route. The primary objective was to take action against drivers who illegally parked tempos by the roadside to pick up passengers, a persistent cause of traffic jams in the area.

Faced with the police presence, many tempo drivers moved their vehicles, while some violated regulations. The traffic police proceeded to issue fines against these vehicles. This problem is particularly evident in front of a mall located at Lal Gate, where tempos heading towards Nawabganj, Shamsabad, and Kaimganj often form long queues, severely disrupting traffic.

Allegations of Extortion and Disputes

According to local residents, there have been long-standing complaints of extortion from this illegal tempo stand. It is alleged that some individuals illegally collect money from tempo drivers under the guise of 'numbering'. This frequently leads to disputes, further hindering traffic flow.

Campaign's Aftermath and Lingering Concerns

When the traffic police acted upon reports of road obstruction on Tuesday, vehicles parked along the roadside were cleared. However, shortly after the police team departed, the situation reverted to its previous state, with tempos resuming their roadside parking. Local citizens have expressed concern, stating that if a concrete and permanent solution is not found, traffic crises will persist in the future. The continuity and effectiveness of this campaign are now being questioned.
