Karwa Chauth Celebrated with Fervor in Balrampur

The festival of Karwa Chauth was celebrated with traditional faith and immense enthusiasm in the Balrampur district on October 30, 2026. Married women observed a stringent fast without water throughout the day, praying for the long life, good health of their husbands, and the prosperity of their families. The day was filled with devotional prayers and rituals.

Rituals and Observances

On this auspicious occasion, women adorned themselves with 'solah shringar' (sixteen adornments), applied auspicious mehndi on their hands, and wore traditional festive attire. In homes and public places, women collectively listened to the Karwa Chauth story, enhancing the spiritual significance of the fast.

After a day of waiting and prayers, as evening approached, the women's attention turned to the sky, eagerly awaiting the moonrise. Upon the appearance of the full moon, they performed rituals worshipping Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, and Lord Ganesha. They decorated the Karwa Chauth 'thali' (plate), offered water to the moon, and then broke their fast by drinking water from their husbands' hands. This ritual symbolizes the love, trust, and unbreakable bond between husband and wife.

Festive Atmosphere in Markets

The festive spirit of Karwa Chauth was also evident in the local markets, which buzzed with activity from morning. Shops selling beauty products like bangles, bindis, sindoor, and cosmetics saw a large influx of women. Stores offering pooja materials, particularly 'karwa' (earthen pots), lamps, roli, akshat, camphor, and sweets, also experienced a steady stream of customers.

Additionally, there was significant enthusiasm for traditional attire such as sarees, suits, and kurtas for both women and men. Families embraced a festive ambiance, commemorating the love and unbreakable bond between spouses and exchanging gifts.

Local Leader's Participation

Local BJP leader Manju Tiwari also participated in the traditional rituals at her residence with her husband, Om Prakash Tiwari, praying for eternal marital bliss. She highlighted the festival's importance, stating that it reflects women's unwavering devotion and love for their husbands.

The entire Balrampur district observed this festival with devotion, love, and familial harmony, underscoring the deep meaning and significance of the married women's fast in Indian culture. This Karwa Chauth celebration served as a vibrant testament to women's spirit of sacrifice and love.
