Interstate Gang Specializing in Rent-and-Steal Cars Busted, Three Arrested

Gang Busted for Selling Rented Cars and Stealing Them Back via GPS

As part of an ongoing campaign to curb vehicle thefts, the Barohi Police and Cyber Cell have jointly busted an interstate gang. This criminal outfit specialized in selling rented cars using forged documents and subsequently repossessing them via GPS tracking. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, while efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the gang.

Under the direction of Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Verma, the operation was carried out based on information received from an informant. The joint team, including Barohi Station House Officer Sub-Inspector Atul Bhadauria and the Cyber Cell team, apprehended three suspects from the Gwalior and Gohad areas. Recovered from the accused were a stolen WagonR car, fake registration card copies, and ₹30,000 in cash.

Fraudulent Vehicle Rental Scheme Uncovered

On July 21st, the police received a complaint from complainant Pawan Bhadauria. He had purchased a WagonR car (MP 07 ZJ 9332) for approximately ₹4 lakh through an acquaintance. A sum of ₹1.68 lakh was paid upfront, and the transaction was notarized on an e-stamp paper. The seller also provided copies of the vehicle's registration card and identity proof.

However, on the night of July 26th, the car, which was parked outside his residence, was found missing the following morning. A case has been registered under Section 303 (2) of the Indian Penal Code as crime number 47/26.

GPS Enables Recidivist Theft

During the investigation, police discovered that the Gwalior-based gang would first rent four-wheeled vehicles. Subsequently, they would alter the name and address on the original registration card to create fraudulent documents. Using these fake papers, they would then sell the vehicles to unsuspecting individuals, often exploiting their financial difficulties.

Leveraging GPS trackers installed in the vehicles, the perpetrators would re-steal the cars using master keys within days of the sale. During interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed to also stealing a car from the Bhind Dehat (VTI) region. The successful operation involved Sub-Inspector Atul Bhadauria, Cyber Cell In-charge Sub-Inspector Satyaveer Singh, and a dedicated team of police personnel including Head Constables Pramod Parashar, Ganesh Kumar, Satyendra Yadav, Trivendra Singh, Mayank Dubey, Narayan Singh, Mayaram, and Constables Anand Dixit, Rahul Yadav, Saurabh Kaurav, Munesh Singh, Vishal Yadav, Anil Tomar, Rahul Shukla, and Vikas Chauhan.

The police are now actively searching for the remaining gang members to prevent further vehicle thefts and ensure comprehensive curbing of such incidents.
