Administration Initiatives for Rose Cultivation

The district administration of Guna has initiated a drive to bring rose cultivation to national and international recognition by employing modern techniques and superior marketing strategies. Collector Kishore Kanyal, while inspecting a one-acre polyhouse at the farm of progressive farmer Dharmveer Singh Raghuvanshi in Bhadour village, Aron, emphasized the potential for significant income growth for farmers.

Thirty thousand rose plants were planted in this polyhouse a month ago, with commercial production expected to commence from the fourth month. Currently, farmers in Guna district are earning a net profit of approximately fifteen lakh rupees per acre through polyhouse cultivation. The district administration aims to increase this income to twenty-five to thirty lakh rupees per acre through advanced management and marketing.

Enhancing Production and Quality

Considering the current production capacity, one acre yields five lakh flowers. The goal is to increase this to seven to eight lakh flowers by utilizing modern techniques. Special attention will be given to flower quality, attractive packaging, and effective marketing to establish a distinct identity for Guna's roses in national and international markets. Aditya Raghuvanshi, son of the polyhouse operator, is currently studying the Delhi flower market to formulate better sales strategies.

Promoting Polyhouse Farming and Income Growth

Currently, over fifty acres in the district are under rose cultivation using polyhouses. Farmers are adopting state-of-the-art facilities like sensor-based automation and cold rooms to improve their production processes. The Department of Horticulture is providing grants of forty to fifty percent to farmers embracing these innovations.

According to Deputy Director Horticulture KPS Kirar, the department is encouraging farmers to organize and promote cluster-based farming. This model will facilitate the collective development of essential facilities such as grading, packaging, and cold storage, thereby reducing costs and increasing productivity for farmers.

Developing a Comprehensive Flower Production Network

Plans are underway to develop new clusters not only for roses but also for other flowers like marigolds, tuberose, and gladiolus in the Guna and Bamori development blocks. The objective of this initiative is to create a comprehensive and robust network for flower production in the district, offering better opportunities to farmers and giving a new direction to the region's agricultural economy.
