Farmers' Outrage Over Unpaid Crop Insurance Leads to Protest

On Farmer's Day, September 15, 2026, the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh staged a strong protest in Garoth tehsil, Mandsaur district, against the functioning of crop insurance companies. Farmers expressed their anger by burning an effigy of the insurance company, frustrated by not receiving adequate compensation for crop damage despite paying premiums.

Farmers chanted the slogan, "No crop insurance, then no premium." According to Sangh officials, the administration had previously assured farmers that insurance payments would be processed within fifteen days. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rahul Chauhan had discussed the matter with the farmers, but payments remained outstanding beyond the stipulated deadline.

Memorandum Submitted with Crop Insurance and Other Demands

Angered by the administration's failure to keep its promise, farmer leaders mobilized again and resorted to protest. Following the effigy burning, members of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh submitted an eleven-point memorandum to the Mandsaur Collector through the Garoth Tehsildar. This memorandum highlights various farmer issues and demands requiring immediate action.

Key demands include ensuring adequate and uninterrupted electricity supply, replacing damaged transformers within twenty-four hours, conducting intensive repair work on power lines, and clearing encroachments from grazing land. Additionally, farmers drew the administration's attention to the need for amendments in the opium policy, waiving interest for old (time-barred) farmers, implementing a cash system for fertilizer purchases, and ensuring the smooth operation of irrigation projects.

Warning Issued to Intensify Movement

The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh has warned the administration that if their demands are not met promptly and positively, the movement will be intensified in the coming days. The Sangh stated that farmers are struggling for their right to crop protection and essential basic amenities and will not rest until their legitimate demands are fulfilled.
