Contaminated Water Found in Anganwadi Tank with Worms, Sparking Outrage

Negligence in Garoth Area Anganwadi Center

A serious case of negligence concerning the health of young children has surfaced at an Anganwadi center in the Garoth area of Mandsaur district. At Anganwadi Center No. 1 in Chachawada Pathari, children were allegedly being served dirty and contaminated water.

Villagers' Allegations and Viral Video

Villagers allege that the water tank had accumulated dirt for a long time and worms were visible inside it. The extent of this serious negligence was revealed when villagers recorded a video of the water tank and shared it on social media, which subsequently went viral.

The viral video clearly shows the stagnant dirty water and crawling worms inside the tank. Following the emergence of the video, parents and other villagers in the area have expressed strong displeasure.

Parents' Concerns and Demand for Action

Expressing concern over this incident, parents stated that the health and safety of young children in Anganwadi centers should be the highest priority. They emphasized that such negligence is worrying and unacceptable.

They have demanded an impartial investigation into the matter by the concerned department and strict action against those responsible. Furthermore, they expect assurances that a system for clean and safe drinking water will be maintained at the center in the future.

Health Risks of Contaminated Water

According to health experts, consuming contaminated water can be extremely harmful to children. It increases the risk of diarrhea, typhoid, cholera, dysentery, jaundice, and other waterborne diseases.

Young children have lower immunity compared to adults, making them more susceptible to infections. Prolonged consumption of unclean water can also negatively impact children's nutrition, physical development, and their education. Parasites present in contaminated water can also cause worm infections (intestinal worms).

Investigating Officer's Action

In response to the incident, investigating officer Reena Jinjuriya stated that she visited the site and assessed the situation. According to her, only 9 children were present at the Anganwadi center at the time of the incident.

She has issued a notice for a three-day salary deduction for the Anganwadi worker and helper, despite a total attendance of 50 children registered at the center. Regarding the water tank, the investigating officer mentioned that its cleaning was carried out on-site.
