Blood Storage Units to Bolster Maternal and Child Health in Farrukhabad

Farrukhabad, August 1, 2026 - In a significant step towards strengthening maternal and child health services in Farrukhabad district, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Anand Upadhyay, has prioritized the establishment and operation of blood storage units in all First Referral Units (FRUs).

The primary aim of this initiative is to ensure the timely availability of safe blood during emergencies, particularly in cases of severe postpartum hemorrhage. This will play a crucial role in reducing maternal mortality rates.

On-Site Blood Availability for Emergencies

During a review meeting, CMO Dr. Upadhyay directed officials that establishing blood storage units at community health centers will provide critical emergency blood to patients and pregnant women in need. This will reduce the necessity of referring them to the district hospital, thereby expediting treatment and ensuring life-saving services are delivered promptly.

He emphasized that the health department's commitment extends beyond mere installation; voluntary blood donation will be continuously encouraged. Regular blood donation camps are being organized in the district to collect sufficient blood, ensuring no patient faces delays in receiving safe blood when required.

Continuous Promotion of Voluntary Blood Donation

Dr. Anand Upadhyay has appealed to all sections of society, especially social organizations, voluntary groups, and youth, to donate blood regularly. He believes that every individual's blood donation can be vital in saving a life.

Currently, efforts are underway to collect more blood through periodic donation camps. This additional blood stock will be utilized in emergency situations, preventing any delay in life-saving treatments for patients. This initiative will ensure local availability of blood, reducing dependence on distant, larger hospitals.

Emphasis on Quality and Coordination in Operations

The CMO has instructed that all necessary equipment, trained human resources, an effective cold chain system, and full compliance with quality standards must be ensured for the smooth operation of the blood storage units. He also stressed the critical need for strong coordination between blood banks and FRUs to maintain an uninterrupted supply chain.

This coordination will ensure that the right blood reaches the right person at the time of need. Maintaining the cold chain is paramount for blood quality, guaranteeing that stored blood remains safe for use. Trained personnel will ensure professional management and distribution of blood.

Swift Resolution of Public Grievances within Eight Days

Meanwhile, at the Sampurna Samadhan Diwas held in Farrukhabad on Saturday, a total of 138 complaints were registered under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Dr. Ankur Lather, with four cases being resolved immediately.

A prominent issue raised was the deletion of 74 voters' names from the electoral roll in Harsinghpur Gahlwar, leading to a complaint by villagers to the District Magistrate. Taking immediate cognizance, the DM directed the concerned officials to investigate the error and rectify it to protect voters' rights.

Other complaints included harassment by local strongmen from Gujarpur, land encroachment in Lilapur, and a mother-in-law fraudulently transferring a shop's sale deed to her elder son in Sahra. A disabled resident of Kankpur complained about not receiving land allocation, while a demand for the Kisan Samman Nidhi was made by Haridutt from Fakharpur.

Allegations of corruption were leveled against Lekhpal Varun by Rajpal from Kumharour, and a complaint regarding unaddressed encroachment was filed by Mukesh from Balipatti. Ashok from Harsinghpur Gahlwar reiterated the demand for a thorough investigation into the voter list name deletion issue. Ahivaran from Patti Dara filed a complaint regarding an attempted rape, a highly sensitive case.

District Magistrate Dr. Ankur Lather instructed all concerned officials to ensure the qualitative resolution of all received complaints within the next eight days. He warned that any negligence would not be tolerated, and strict action would be taken against responsible officials. This deadline is crucial to ensure that public problems are resolved not just on paper but also on the ground.

Complaints received by department included 55 from the Revenue Department, 26 from the Police Department, 22 from the Development Department, six from the Electricity Department, eight from the Food and Civil Supplies Department, and 21 from other departments, reflecting the widespread nature of issues across various sectors.

In line with the government's vision, safe motherhood and emergency health services are continuously being strengthened in the district. The establishment of blood storage units and the effective operation of voluntary blood donation campaigns will ensure timely and improved treatment for patients in Farrukhabad, leading to a notable improvement in maternal and child health services.
