Public Grievance Redressal Mishandled, Officers Suspended

In a significant action, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya has suspended three police personnel in Bareilly for gross negligence in addressing public grievances and failing to immediately register an FIR for a victimized woman's complaint. The suspended officers include Station House Officer (SHO) of CB Ganj police station, Sub-Inspector Vinod Singh, Senior Sub-Inspector Jitendra Kumar, and Sub-Inspector Ashwani Sharma, with immediate effect.

Departmental inquiries have also been ordered against these three officers. The matter came to light when a female victim from the CB Ganj police station area filed her complaint on October 27, 2026. Allegations suggest that the police initially took no effective action. Despite clear instructions issued from the police office on October 29, 2026, an FIR was not registered, even in a situation where the victim had sustained a severe head injury.

This conduct by the police personnel is being viewed as profound indifference towards public grievance redressal and a severe violation of official duties. The actions highlight a disregard for the mandate of 'Jan Sunwai' (public hearing/grievance redressal).

SSP Reviews Public Grievance Mechanism, Issues Strict Directives

On October 28, 2026, SSP Anurag Arya convened an important meeting at the police office. During this meeting, he conducted a thorough review of the progress in resolving complaints received at various police stations. The SSP issued explicit directives to all officers, emphasizing that public grievances must be treated with the utmost seriousness, and any negligence in their resolution, at any level, would not be tolerated.

Nevertheless, in response to the gross negligence observed at the CB Ganj police station, the SSP adopted a stern stance, leading to the immediate suspension of the involved officers. This decisive action underscores the commitment to accountability within the police department regarding public complaints.

Message on Ensuring Accountability

SSP Anurag Arya's action is being interpreted as a strong message aimed at ensuring accountability within the police department concerning public complaints. This incident signals that ignoring victims' complaints or failing to act on them promptly could now have significant consequences for police personnel.

This disciplinary action is expected to foster greater sensitivity among police officers towards complainants and encourage a more prompt and diligent discharge of their duties.
