TB Screening Conducted at Mirzapur Jail

A team from the health department visited Mirzapur District Jail on Friday following the detection of potential symptoms of tuberculosis (TB) in an inmate. The primary objective of the visit was to conduct necessary investigations to confirm the disease and to educate other inmates about TB and the available healthcare services.

Led by the District Coordinator of the Tuberculosis Department, Satish Shankar Yadav, the team collected a sputum sample from the suspected inmate. This sample will be sent for further examination to clearly determine the status of TB infection. Such proactive measures ensure the early detection and prevention of infectious diseases, even in confined environments like prisons.

Strengthening Health Security Within the Jail

During the campaign, Satish Yadav also met with two other inmates who were already undergoing TB treatment. He thoroughly reviewed their health condition, diet, and availability of medication, ensuring they were receiving appropriate treatment and their health needs were being met.

Additionally, the team provided detailed information to all inmates about the various symptoms of TB, its modes of transmission, and the free medical and treatment facilities provided by the government. They emphasized that TB is a curable disease and that early diagnosis and complete treatment are crucial. Inmates were also advised to immediately report any symptoms such as cough, fever, weight loss, or night sweats to the jail hospital.

The administration is placing special emphasis on strengthening health security standards within the jail. The aim is to control any potential infection in a timely manner and ensure the health protection of the inmates. This initiative was successfully carried out with the active participation of Jail Superintendent R.K. Mishra, Jail Physician Dr. Pradeep Kumar, X-ray Technician Shyamnath, and Jail Writer Jagpal. Their cooperation ensured that the team could perform its duties smoothly and that essential information reached the inmates.

From the Tuberculosis Department, TBHB Avadh Bihari Kushwaha and Anshuman Dwivedi also provided significant support, leading to the effective completion of the investigation process. Such joint efforts highlight the importance of coordination between the jail administration and the health department, especially on public health issues.
