New Law Against Exam Malpractice Takes Effect

The Indian government has enacted a stringent law to combat incidents of fraud and paper leaks in public examinations. Following official approval by President Droupadi Murmu, the law became effective on August 1, 2026. Its primary objective is to guarantee the fairness and integrity of examinations and to severely penalize those involved in fraudulent activities.

Under this new legislation, individual offenders face a minimum of five years imprisonment and a fine of up to 50 lakh rupees. If an individual or a group is found to be involved in organized exam fraud or paper leaks, they will face a minimum of seven years imprisonment and fines up to 10 crore rupees. These provisions are designed to curb large-scale rackets targeting examinations.

Formation of National Task Force for Exam Reforms

In response to the rising incidents of paper leaks in recent years and widespread student protests, the central government has taken a significant step to reform the examination system. On July 30, 2026, the government announced the formation of the 'National Exam Reforms Task Force'.

This crucial task force will be led by Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys. The task force will provide specific recommendations and measures to make examinations more transparent, secure, and well-organized. Paper leaks in competitive exams, cancellation of exams, and delays in results cause severe mental, financial, and academic stress for students.

Commitment to Student Welfare and Mental Health

In this regard, BJP leader Dr. Yuvraj Singh stated that the central government is committed to resolving these issues while prioritizing student interests. He also mentioned that efforts are underway to establish fast-track courts for the swift resolution of such cases, thereby expediting the justice process.

Dr. Yuvraj Singh also expressed concern over the mental health challenges faced by students. He noted that exam pressure, financial difficulties, living away from home, and fear of failure adversely affect students' mental well-being. He emphasized the necessity of regular psychological counseling services in schools, colleges, and coaching institutes.

Dr. Singh appealed to the youth to voice their concerns peacefully and democratically, and to avoid falling prey to any political manipulation that could negatively impact their future. He stressed that the Bharatiya Janata Party is committed to providing better platforms and leadership opportunities for the youth to actively participate in politics, organizational activities, and nation-building.
