Madhya Pradesh Police Seize 871 kg of Ganja, Foil Rs 4 Crore Smuggling Operation
Madhya Pradesh Police intercepted a container in Jabalpur, seizing over 871 kg of ganja worth approximately Rs 4.35 crore and arresting two individuals.

Major Drug Bust in Jabalpur
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Madhya Pradesh Police have seized more than 871 kg of ganja from a container in Jabalpur. The estimated value of the seized contraband is reported to be Rs 4 crore 35 lakh 55 thousand.
The operation led to the arrest of two individuals, believed to be part of an inter-state ganja smuggling network. This successful operation was a joint effort between the Jabalpur Police and the Narcotics Wing based in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. The action was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Jabalpur, Mr. Sampat Upadhyay, by a joint team of the Crime Branch and Gosalpur Police Station.
Container Intercepted on National Highway
Acting on specific intelligence, police had been monitoring a suspicious container heading towards Jabalpur on October 30th. An attempt was made to intercept the container near the Muskra turn on National Highway-30, but the vehicle attempted to flee. The police successfully cordoned off and stopped the container near the Mohatra toll plaza.
The driver and another occupant of the container attempted to escape but were promptly apprehended by the alert police personnel. This timely intervention prevented the smugglers from evading capture.
Inter-State Network Uncovered
During interrogation, the arrested accused revealed they were residents of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. A search of the container uncovered 412 paint cans, beneath which 28 sacks were discovered. Upon inspection, these sacks were found to contain a large quantity of ganja packets, concealed and sealed with khaki-colored tape.
After weighing, a total of 871 kg and 95 grams of narcotic substance was recovered under the NDPS Act. Preliminary questioning indicated that the accused had collected the consignment from Visakhapatnam. They loaded these 28 sacks of ganja into the container en route, following instructions from an individual residing in Balangir, Odisha.
The plan was to unload the ganja at a designated location before Maihar in Madhya Pradesh. One of the arrested smugglers confessed to having previously delivered ganja consignments in Madhya Pradesh multiple times for the same individual from Balangir, receiving Rs 1 lakh per delivery.
Legal Action and Further Investigation
The police have registered a case against both arrested individuals under the NDPS Act. Comprehensive investigations are underway to expose other individuals involved in the supply and smuggling of this ganja, and to dismantle the entire network. The Madhya Pradesh Police are continuously conducting campaigns against the illegal drug trade and coordinating with police forces and relevant agencies of other states to curb such inter-state networks.
The authorities have vowed to continue such actions in the future to make the state free from narcotics.
