SFI Demands Upgrade of Palika Bazar School and Improved Facilities

In Guna on Sunday, September 20, 2026, activists from the Students' Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest at the Collectorate complex. They demanded the swift resolution of the educational and fundamental problems faced by students in Palika Bazar. The organization submitted a memorandum to the District Collector, urging immediate action on these issues.

Key Demands for Palika Bazar Students

The memorandum highlighted that the government school in Palika Bazar, located in Ward No. 17 of Raghogarh tehsil, currently operates only up to Class 8. This is despite the area being populated for approximately 40 years, with a majority of residents belonging to the labor class. A primary demand from the SFI is the expedited upgrade of this school to operate up to Class 12.

Furthermore, the SFI requested a simplification of the process for obtaining caste certificates to ensure students receive benefits from scholarships, reservations, and government schemes. They also proposed the implementation of an alternative arrangement in place of old documents.

Call for Health Center and Bridge Construction

The absence of a primary health center in the Palika Bazar area, which has a population of about 5,000, was identified as a serious problem. SFI strongly advocated for the establishment of a local health center. Currently, residents have to travel to places like Ruthiyai or Guna even for basic medical treatment.

The memorandum also raised the issue of constructing a permanent and safe bridge over the Chaupan River on the Ruthiyai to Palika Bazar route. This bridge would replace the current causeway that gets submerged during the monsoon season, thereby facilitating smoother travel for local residents and students.

Requests for Educational Support and Transportation

The organization also called for the provision of secure hostel accommodation for economically weaker students and the timely disbursement of all educational scheme benefits to students. SFI representatives emphasized the importance of initiating an accessible public transportation system at subsidized rates to ensure the safe commute of students.

Several student representatives, including Hukam Singh Ahirwar, Sandeep Joshi, and Pravesh Tank, were present during the demonstration. SFI urged the administration to give prompt attention to these demands and take concrete steps towards their resolution.
