Agricultural College Students Undertake Field Visit for Seed Production Training

A special educational excursion and training program was organized for graduate-level students of the Agricultural College, Pawarkheda, in the field premises of the Zonal Agricultural Research Center, Pawarkheda. The primary objective of this session was to familiarize students practically with the complex processes of breeder seed production and the latest advanced techniques for paddy cultivation.

Hands-on Learning in Seed Production and Management

During the program, scientists and senior officials from the center provided students with detailed information on various stages of seed production. Dr. Vinod Kumar, Field In-charge and Agricultural Scientist, guided the students through the center's premises. He explained modern seed storage systems, proper seed maintenance, and the efficient operation and use of agricultural machinery.

Dr. Kumar practically demonstrated the technical processes related to seed entry-exit, sowing, and threshing, offering valuable guidance. In the next phase, Dr. Monica Singh, Station Breeder from the Plant Breeding Department, focused on the correct method of paddy transplanting under the breeder seed production program.

Importance of Roguing and Expert Interaction

Dr. Singh extensively explained the significance of 'roguing' – the process of removing undesirable and diseased plants from the field – and the skills required to execute it correctly. This practical training provided students with an excellent opportunity to understand complex agricultural processes at the ground level, complementing their theoretical knowledge.

In the final part of the program, students posed their subject-specific questions to the agricultural scientists, who provided satisfactory solutions. Such events promote practical experience in agricultural education, enabling students to become skilled agricultural experts in the future. The college administration has placed special emphasis on the skill development of its students.
