Police Confiscate 122 Vehicles in Sweep Against Theft Gangs

Bhopal | August 3, 2026 | The Madhya Pradesh Police have seized a total of 122 stolen vehicles from various districts across the state over the past three weeks as part of a special campaign to control property-related crimes, particularly vehicle theft. The confiscated vehicles include 116 motorcycles, 4 tractors, 1 pickup truck, and 1 car.

During these operations, police have also busted several vehicle theft gangs and arrested the accused. The statewide action was carried out on the directives of the Police Headquarters, aiming to ensure the security of citizens' property and take strict action against criminals. The estimated value of the seized vehicles is said to be in crores of rupees. For instance, 51 motorcycles worth ₹50 lakh were seized in Khargone district.

Inter-District and Interstate Gangs Busted

One of the significant actions by the police took place in Khargone district, where an inter-district motorcycle theft gang was exposed. Police arrested three notorious accused, leading to the recovery of 51 stolen motorcycles worth approximately ₹50 lakh from various areas including Khargone, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Mhow, and Harda. Investigations revealed that these criminals could steal motorcycles with old or faulty locks from crowded places within just 5 minutes and then sell them at low prices in rural areas.

Similarly, in Chhatarpur district, the Lavkushnagar police arrested four members of an interstate motorcycle theft gang and seized 21 stolen motorcycles. There is suspicion that these accused are also linked to gangs outside the state, which is currently under thorough investigation. The Chitrangi police in Singrauli district apprehended five notorious vehicle thieves, recovering nine motorcycles from their possession.

Guna Police seized seven motorcycles in two separate actions and took one juvenile into custody who was found to be involved in vehicle theft despite his young age. In Mandsaur district, police arrested two vehicle thieves in the Malhargarh police station area and seized five motorcycles.

Technology and Coordination Drive Operations

The Janakganj police station in Gwalior arrested a notorious vehicle thief and seized two Activas and one laptop. This accused was involved in stealing small vehicles and valuable items like laptops from various areas. Shajapur Police seized five motorcycles and apprehended one accused following an effective operation. Other stolen motorcycles are expected to be recovered based on this accused's information.

GRP Indore busted a vehicle theft case, seizing four stolen motorcycles, demonstrating their commitment to passenger safety. In Datia, the Tharet police station seized four motorcycles from a notorious thief who had been evading capture for a long time. The Dehat police station in Chhindwara solved two motorcycle theft incidents, recovering two motorcycles and arresting the culprit.

Rajgarh Police, in two separate campaigns, dismantled inter-district and interstate vehicle theft gangs, recovering a total of seven vehicles, including four motorcycles, one pickup truck, and two motorcycles used in the crimes. This action is a testament to the police's alertness and the strength of their informant network. The Khurai city police station in Sagar district exposed an inter-district tractor theft gang, arresting three accused and seizing four stolen tractors.

Meanwhile, Bhind Police arrested three members of a four-wheeler theft gang and seized one car, along with cash and forged documents. This gang was attempting to sell the stolen car using fake paperwork.

Through these extensive operations, the Madhya Pradesh Police are demonstrating their proactive approach to effectively control property-related crimes like vehicle theft. The police are utilizing modern technology, including analysis of CCTV footage, vehicle tracking systems, and digital fingerprints. Emphasis is being placed on swift investigation, strengthening the informant network, and improving coordination between districts, making it easier to apprehend criminals.
