Massive Raid on Adulterated Ghee in Bhind, 53 Liters Confiscated

Bhind, Madhya Pradesh - Food safety officials in Bhind have launched a comprehensive inspection campaign targeting branded ghee establishments. In a significant action, a total of 53 liters of ghee was seized from two different premises after samples were collected.

This operation is a part of a larger effort to ensure consumers receive pure and safe food products. Acting on the directives from the Controller Food and Drug Administration, Bhopal, and under the guidance of Collector Kirodilal Meena, local food safety officers have intensified their scrutiny of ghee vendors operating in the city.

The campaign aims to curb adulteration and guarantee the quality of food items, ensuring that products reaching the public are free from contaminants and meet mandated standards.

Intensified Checks on Branded Ghee Outlets, 53 Liters Seized

Following reports of branded ghee samples being found unsafe in other districts, a special campaign was initiated last week under the orders of the Controller Food and Drug Administration, leading to increased vigilance locally. As part of this, key establishments in Bhind city were inspected.

At 'Anurag Traders', located near HDFC Bank on Lashkar Road, three samples of 'Dhaulpur Fresh' ghee were collected, resulting in the seizure of 48 liters of ghee. Additionally, from 'Goyal Agency' in Ward No. 1, one sample of 'Sahakar Ghee' was taken, and 5 liters of ghee were confiscated.

The total value of the seized ghee has been estimated at approximately ₹28,500. The action was conducted in the presence of Food Safety Officers Rekha Soni, Reena Bansal, and Kiran Sengar.

Officials stated that this special campaign was undertaken to test similar samples and confirm the quality of ghee available in the local market. This initiative is part of a wider campaign across Madhya Pradesh to raise awareness about food safety and combat adulteration.

Nationwide Crackdown on Food Adulteration

Recent weeks have seen significant seizures of adulterated or suspicious ghee by food safety departments in various cities across the country, including Bhopal, Indore, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Ahmedabad.

For instance, on July 30, 2026, approximately 938 kg of suspected adulterated desi ghee was seized in Bhopal. On August 6, 2026, over 2,095 kg of suspected adulterated ghee was confiscated in Bhopal. In Indore, on July 27, 2026, more than 2,165 kg of ghee, valued at an estimated ₹12.21 lakh, was seized.

Further examples include the seizure of 4,850 kg of suspected adulterated cow ghee worth ₹31.8 lakh in Ahmedabad on June 10, 2026. On June 19, 2026, over 6,500 liters of suspected adulterated ghee were seized in Delhi and Haryana. Rajasthan saw the confiscation of over 43,000 liters of suspected adulterated ghee on January 30, 2026.

Most recently, on August 7, 2026, the sale of 25,000 liters of ghee, valued at ₹1.5 crore, was halted from a depot in Indore, with samples collected for testing.

These incidents underscore that food adulteration remains a serious issue, necessitating continuous and stringent action to curb it.
