A Tribute to the Unsung

On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, the Bundelkhandi society in Mahoba is undertaking a unique initiative to commemorate the nation's forgotten martyrs. On the eve of Narak Chaturdashi, 1001 diyas will be lit at the sacrificial site located at the historic Haveli Darwaza in the city as part of the 'One Diya for the Martyrs' campaign.

The primary objective of this event is to express gratitude towards the brave sons who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation's freedom. Tara Patkar Bundelkhandi, convenor of the Bundelkhandi society, stated that this tradition, imbued with patriotism, has been ongoing for the past eleven years.

Honoring the 1857 Revolutionaries

This year's campaign will specifically begin with a tribute to the 16 unknown revolutionaries who were martyred during the First War of Independence in 1857. These heroes were hanged at this very spot by the British rule. This historic site is currently facing encroachment issues, and there has been a long-standing demand to develop it as a protected monument.

Expanding the Scope of Remembrance

The scope of the tribute event will not be limited to the martyrs of 1857 but will also be extended to other memorial sites. Under the campaign, diyas will also be lit at the memorial of Kargil War martyr Balendra Singh in his ancestral village, Ganj. Additionally, floral tributes will be offered at the memorials of local martyrs such as Dinesh Budholiya, Jagdish Yadav, and Rakesh Chaurasia.

A large number of women, children, and elders, along with distinguished citizens of the city, will participate in this event. Everyone will bring diyas from their homes to be part of this collective lighting ceremony. The event aims to convey the message that those who sacrificed their lives for the nation's protection live forever in the memory of the people.

This program will be an unparalleled confluence of patriotism and gratitude, inspiring future generations as well.
