Rabi Sowing Underway Amidst Wheat Seed Demand in Gonda

With the crucial Rabi crop sowing period commencing, the demand for wheat seeds has intensified among farmers in Gonda district. High-quality wheat seeds are being distributed at subsidized rates through government agricultural seed stores located in all 16 development blocks of the district.

Distribution Target and Current Availability

The department has set a target of distributing a total of 17,000 quintals of wheat seeds for this Rabi season. Against this target, approximately 8,500 quintals of wheat seed have been made available at various government seed centers so far. This distribution marks a significant step towards meeting farmers' needs.

Both Foundation and Certified seed categories are available at the distribution centers, allowing farmers to select quality seeds according to their specific requirements.

Other Rabi Seed Availability

In addition to wheat, the agriculture department is also ensuring the availability of seeds for other Rabi crops such as lentil, chickpea, peas, and mustard. These seeds are also being provided to farmers at a 50 percent subsidy, aiding them in cultivating various crops.

Assurance of Sufficient Stock

Manoj Kumar, the in-charge of the Chhapiya center, stated that 306 quintals of seed have been distributed against a target of 1,200 quintals at his center. Farmers are particularly requesting seeds of the WH-1270 and DCW-327 varieties. Similarly, the Mankapur center has a stock of 546 quintals of seed available.

District Agriculture Officer CP Singh has assured farmers that there is no shortage of seeds. He added that if demand increases in the future, arrangements will be made to provide additional seeds. The department's aim is to ensure all farmers receive timely and adequate quantities of quality seeds to meet the Rabi crop production targets.
