Unique Celebration and Awareness Program for Newborn Girls in Mahoba
In the village of Gyodi, Mahoba district, Uttar Pradesh, the Women's Welfare Department organized a distinctive 'Kanya Janmotsav' (Daughter's Birth Celebration) and awareness program. The event aimed to foster a positive societal attitude towards daughters and highlight the importance of their education.
As part of this unique initiative, the births of four newborn baby girls were celebrated, and they were presented with baby kits. This event served not only as an expression of affection for the infants but also as a platform to promote the broader messages of gender equality and women's empowerment.
Held in Gyodi village, Kabrai block, the primary goal of this special program was to create an atmosphere of pride and joy surrounding the birth of daughters, an emotion often suppressed due to societal biases. The event also bolstered significant national campaigns like 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter), striving to bring about positive change in societal thinking.
Departmental officials and villagers present at the program extended their best wishes for the bright future of the daughters and pledged their commitment to their development.
'Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter' Message Through Daughter's Birth Celebration
A key objective of this 'Kanya Janmotsav' program, organized by the Women's Welfare Department, was to eradicate gender inequality prevalent in society and to celebrate the birth of daughters as a joyous occasion. Such events convey the message that daughters are no less than sons and deserve equal opportunities and respect.
The department believes that campaigns like 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' cannot achieve complete success without a change in societal mindset. By distributing baby kits to the four newborn girls, the department wished them a healthy future and inspired their families to prioritize their upbringing and education.
Self-Employment Opportunities for Women's Empowerment
Addressing the gathering, District Mission Coordinator Priya Gupta encouraged the women present to become financially independent. She emphasized learning various skills such as tailoring, organic fertilizer production, and organic weedicide preparation.
Gupta explained that by acquiring these skills, women can start their own businesses and achieve economic empowerment. She further highlighted that women's skill development and economic independence are foundational to the prosperous future of Bundelkhand. The department is also working on schemes to assist women in learning these skills and establishing self-employment ventures.
Emphasis on Safety, Education, and Respect for Girls
Gender Specialists Ruchi Dixit and Rita Chaurasia particularly stressed that a strong and happy society can only be built through the education of daughters and the skill development of women. They made the women aware of the safety of girls, their right to education, and the importance of respecting them.
They informed the attendees that women can improve their living standards by availing the benefits of various schemes operated by the department. The event saw the presence of approximately 80 women and departmental officials, including Gram Pradhan Siddh Narayan Yadav and Gram Panchayat Secretary Sarvesh Kumar Mishra.
This initiative is a significant and courageous step towards eradicating deep-rooted social evils like female foeticide and fostering a spirit of respect for daughters in society. Officials also encouraged women to benefit from government schemes and assured them of all possible assistance.
