Fire Safety Training Conducted at Madhya Pradesh Police Headquarters

A critical fire safety training was organized for security personnel and other staff at the Madhya Pradesh Police Headquarters in Bhopal on Saturday morning. The training aimed to equip personnel with the skills to handle fire incidents while ensuring their own safety.

During the training, the use of modern equipment for fire suppression was demonstrated and explained through a mock drill. A key highlight of this exercise was the effective extinguishing of liquid fires using fire extinguishers. Security personnel were not only educated on firefighting methods but also practiced safely navigating smoke and flames.

Familiarization with Modern Equipment

Police officers and staff received detailed information about various modern firefighting equipment. This included devices such as collecting bridges, dividing bridges, fire helmets, foam nozzles, fire extinguishers and cartridges, torches, revolving nozzles, universal branches, new light (branches), ordinary branches, adapters, nets, fire axes, lock cutters, proximity suits, aluminum suits, chemical suits, breathing apparatus sets, life jackets, hose pipes, fire blankets, and general fire extinguishers. Proper use of these tools can minimize damage to life and property during any fire accident.

Types of Fires and Prevention Methods

Sub-Inspector Santosh Dubey from the Police Fire Station Bhopal explained that fires are classified into five main categories: A, B, C, D, and E. Category 'A' includes fires in solid materials like wood and coal. Category 'B' pertains to flammable liquids, 'C' to gases, 'D' to metals, and 'E' to electrical fires. He emphasized that different methods and equipment, including water or special chemicals, are necessary to extinguish each type of fire.

Immediate Action During Fire Incidents

The training session also stressed the precautions and necessary steps to be taken during a fire incident. As per instructions, the fire brigade, police control room, local police station, electricity department, and the nearest hospital should be immediately informed. Simultaneously, the firefighting team should attempt to control the fire in its initial stage using fire extinguishers, water, or sand. Shutting off the building's electricity supply from the main switch is also a crucial step. Furthermore, the fire alarm team must alert everyone to ensure a safe evacuation. The evacuation team must guide people to safety through pre-determined routes as per established plans. It is also vital to follow instructions such as avoiding crowds, not using elevators, and having the property rescue team secure important valuables.

Removing highly flammable materials like petrol, kerosene, and plastics from the scene can help prevent the spread of fire. The training also covered specific instructions for securing valuable assets by the property rescue team.
