Madhya Pradesh Police Crack Down on Illicit Fertilizer Trade, Seize 2,230 Bags
The Madhya Pradesh Police, in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, has intensified action against the illegal fertilizer trade and black marketing to ensure farmers receive quality fertilizers. Over the past two days, significant operations in Khandwa and Chhatarpur districts resulted in the seizure of 2,230 bags of fertilizer, including counterfeit products, signaling a move to curb the illicit fertilizer business.
Khandwa: Illegal DAP Fertilizer Transport Busted
On October 25, a joint team of the Agriculture Department and police in Khandwa district's Khalwa police station area, specifically in village Richhikheda, intercepted three trucks with Maharashtra registration numbers. A thorough inspection revealed that each truck was carrying 500 bags of DAP fertilizer, totaling 1,500 bags.
The investigation showed that the fertilizer was en route from Buldhana district, Maharashtra, to Dadaji Krishi Seva Kendra in Dharani. However, it was found being illegally transported in village Richhikheda, Khandwa district, deviating from its designated route. Based on a report from the Agriculture Department official, a case was registered under relevant sections at Khalwa police station, and an investigation has commenced.
The police seized the fertilizer and the three trucks, with the total value of the confiscated materials estimated at approximately 50.25 lakh rupees.
Chhatarpur: Cache of Fake Fertilizer Recovered
In Chhatarpur district, the Matguwan police station received a tip-off about the illegal transportation of fake fertilizer in a loader vehicle on the Sagar-Kanpur National Highway. Acting on the information, police stopped the vehicle near the Kurraha T-point for inspection.
When the vehicle driver failed to produce necessary transportation documents, the Agriculture Department was immediately informed. An inspection by the Agriculture Development Officer confirmed the fertilizer to be counterfeit. In the initial action, 80 bags of fake fertilizer and the Ashok Leyland loader vehicle used for its transport were seized.
Based on information obtained during interrogation, the police team also conducted a search at Amar Mandap Garden on Narayanpura Road in Chhatarpur town. From this location, an additional 650 bags of fake fertilizer were recovered. In total, 730 bags of fake fertilizer and the loader vehicle were seized, with an estimated value of approximately 17 lakh rupees.
These coordinated actions by the Madhya Pradesh Police and the Agriculture Department are expected to not only curb the illegal fertilizer trade but also strengthen efforts to investigate the involvement of individuals and protect farmers' interests. Investigations are ongoing in both cases, with further actions being taken.
