Lokpal's 50 Years: CM Emphasizes Public Trust for Good Governance

Lucknow, September 14, 2026 – Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while addressing the 50th anniversary celebration of the Lokpal organisation in Lucknow, stated that the unwavering faith of common citizens in constitutional institutions is the true strength of democracy. He particularly stressed that good governance is entirely dependent on public trust, and its true measure is when even the person at the lowest rung of society trusts these institutions.

The Chief Minister described the Lokpal organisation's five-decade journey as a significant milestone. He recalled that the institution was established on September 14, 1977, under the leadership of Justice Vishambhar Dayal. Currently, the organisation is functioning with renewed energy under the guidance of Justice Sanjay Mishra.

The Chief Minister proposed that the organisation should undertake comprehensive documentation of cases resolved to date in celebration of its golden jubilee. He also emphasized the need to establish dialogue with Lokpals and experts from across the country to formulate an effective roadmap for the next 50 years.

Technology's Role in Transparency

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shed light on the role of technology in bringing transparency to governance. He noted that modern systems like Artificial Intelligence, data analysis, and e-governance are making administration more sensitive and accountable.

He cited the public distribution system as an example, explaining how the use of technologies such as e-POS machines and truck tracking has virtually eliminated complaints related to ration distribution. Similarly, 3.4 million pending cases in the revenue department have been successfully resolved through technology and time-bound processes, providing relief to citizens.

He also praised the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, through which government aid is directly credited to the bank accounts of beneficiaries. This has eliminated the role of intermediaries, ensuring that the benefits of schemes reach the needy without any hindrance. The Chief Minister also stressed that the system for grievance redressal should not be misused, as unnecessary and baseless complaints waste the valuable time of honest citizens.

Lokpal's Stance on Corruption

On this occasion, Lokpal Justice Sanjay Mishra, in his address, defined corruption not merely as an economic offense, but as a violation of the rights of the poor and young sections of society. He reiterated the resolve to further strengthen transparency through digital governance.

He reported that the Lokpal organisation resolved 98 percent of complaints in the year 2024, reflecting the institution's efficiency and impartiality. Deputy Lokpals Surendra Kumar Yadav, Dinesh Kumar Singh, and Shambhu Singh Yadav also shared their views during the ceremony. They highlighted the institution's 50-year journey and underscored its significance.

A short film based on the organisation's five-decade journey was also screened during the event, depicting the institution's origin, development, and achievements. Senior administrative officers and dignitaries were present, who discussed the Lokpal organisation's accomplishments and future plans.
