Development Stalled by Freight Yard Relocation Delays

Development works proposed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at Itarsi Junction in Madhya Pradesh have hit a significant roadblock. Rajya Sabha Member Maya Narolia raised this issue during the Zero Hour in Parliament, stating that the modernization of the junction is being hampered by delays in shifting the old railway freight yard located within the station premises.

Drawing the attention of the Railway Minister, MP Narolia highlighted that under the ambitious 'Amrit Bharat Station Scheme' to transform Itarsi Junction into a world-class station, modern passenger facilities, new foot overbridges, spacious waiting rooms, and improved parking arrangements are being developed. A crucial part of this master plan involves the removal of old structures from the station premises and circulating area.

Freight Yard Relocation Delay Impacts Development

Expressing concern in the House, MP Mrs. Narolia stated that due to administrative inertia, the freight yard has not yet been relocated to its designated new site. This uncertainty has slowed down the pace of station modernization, platform expansion, and other critical development works. Furthermore, the presence of the freight yard is causing inconvenience to passenger movement, affecting the station's operational efficiency.

She clarified that until the old railway freight yard is completely shifted, the major development works proposed under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme will not gain expected momentum. This delay is not only impacting the project's timeline but also depriving passengers of modern amenities.

Demand for Immediate Action, Prioritizing Public Interest Development

MP Maya Narolia has urged the Railway Minister to intervene immediately and issue directives to the concerned officials. She believes that for the broader public interest and the timely completion of railway development works, it is essential to expedite the process of relocating the old railway freight yard at Itarsi Junction to its new location as soon as possible. This move will not only accelerate development works but also provide better facilities to passengers.
