India has dispatched vital assistance to Sri Lanka to combat the escalating dengue outbreak, aligning with its 'Neighbourhood First' policy. On August 4th in Colombo, India's High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, officially handed over a consignment of 500 liters of Technical Malathion to Sri Lanka's Minister of Health, Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa.

This shipment aims to bolster efforts to control the rising number of dengue cases and curb the spread of the disease in the island nation. Sri Lanka is currently facing a significant public health crisis, with media reports indicating over 86,000 dengue cases recorded this year alone. Malathion, an effective insecticide, will be utilized in large-scale fogging operations to prevent mosquito transmission.

Swift Response to Health Crisis

The Indian assistance was provided following a direct request from the Sri Lankan government, demonstrating India's prompt response to the emergency. High Commissioner Santosh Jha shared the development on social media platform 'X', stating, "India stands with Sri Lanka in the fight against dengue! It is a pleasure to hand over 500 litres of Technical Malathion on behalf of the Government and people of India to the Honourable Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayathissa, to aid the ongoing efforts to control dengue in Sri Lanka."

Sri Lankan Minister of Health, Dr. Jayathissa, expressed his profound gratitude to the Government of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the people of India for this humanitarian initiative. He noted that this cooperation would be instrumental in strengthening Sri Lanka's public health infrastructure.
