Gwalior Gripped by Torrential Rain: Collector Issues Drainage Directives

Gwalior city has been reeling under continuous torrential rainfall for the past 24 hours. To assess the severe waterlogging situation in various parts of the city, Collector Mrs. Ruchika Chauhan, accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Mr. Sangh Priya, visited affected areas.

During the inspection, she instructed officials to ensure the immediate drainage of water from waterlogged areas. She clarified that if necessary, temporary encroachments hindering drainage should also be promptly removed to prevent waterlogging issues.

Assessing Waterlogging and Issuing Orders

Observing the waterlogging at Surya Namaskar Tirahe, Collector Mrs. Chauhan directed the Municipal Corporation officials to rectify the drainage system immediately using machinery. She emphasized the need for a permanent solution to this recurring problem.

Meanwhile, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Sangh Priya ordered the present municipal staff to ensure swift drainage using JCBs and other heavy machinery.

Tour of Various Areas and Situation Assessment

Collector Mrs. Chauhan and Municipal Commissioner Mr. Sangh Priya also visited the Uni-Pech Factory Road and DD Nagar area. After assessing the waterlogging situation in these localities, officials were instructed to expedite drainage arrangements.

During the inspection, the Collector also engaged with local citizens to understand their problems. She issued clear directives to officials to immediately remove temporary encroachments that are causing waterlogging issues.

Collector Mrs. Chauhan also stressed that considering the waterlogging situation, if necessary, additional machinery should be hired beyond the Municipal Corporation's resources to swiftly resolve waterlogging issues in all affected areas of the city.

Steps Towards a Permanent Solution in Harishankarapuram Colony

Collector Mrs. Chauhan also reviewed the waterlogging situation in Harishankarapuram Colony. The colony's local councilor, Mrs. Arpana Patil, informed the Collector that waterlogging persists in many parts of the colony.

She explained that while municipal staff and machinery are continuously working, the alignment of the sewer line is crucial for a permanent resolution to waterlogging. In response, Municipal Commissioner Mr. Sangh Priya assured that the sewer line alignment work has already been approved and will be completed soon, preventing similar problems in future monsoon seasons.

Control Room Activation and Future Action Plan

During the inspection, Collector Mrs. Chauhan also directed that the Municipal Corporation Control Room be kept active throughout the monsoon season. She instructed that prompt action be taken wherever waterlogging is reported.

Furthermore, she has directed the Municipal Corporation to develop and implement a permanent action plan to tackle any future waterlogging situations in the city. This initiative is a significant step towards protecting the city from the monsoon's impact and providing relief to citizens.
