Congress Protests Harideep Puri's Rajya Sabha Nomination

The Congress has strongly opposed the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) decision to nominate Union Minister Harideep Singh Puri as their candidate for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Madhya Pradesh. In protest against this decision, Congress workers in Guna staged an aggressive demonstration on Tuesday, burning effigies of Harideep Singh Puri.

The action, conducted under the guidance of former cabinet minister Jaivardhan Singh, was led by city Congress president Rajnish Sharma. The Congress accused the BJP of overlooking local leaders from Madhya Pradesh, arguing that sending an outsider to the Rajya Sabha is an insult to local public sentiment.

Allegations of Neglecting Local Leadership

Rajnish Sharma stated that the state has no shortage of capable leaders, and therefore, nominating an outsider is an affront to local sentiments. He further alleged that the BJP government is ignoring the local leadership in the state.

"This decision not only raises questions about political dynamics but also attempts to belittle the experience and qualifications of senior Congress leaders from the state who have been active in state politics for a long time."

The Congress has also raised serious questions about Union Minister Harideep Puri's working style and character. Rajnish Sharma claimed that Harideep Puri's name has been linked to international controversies such as the Epstein files, which involve cases related to women and girls.

Demand for Reconsideration and Escalation of Protest

He described the decision as unethical and anti-people. The Congress clarified that they cannot accept any candidate with a questionable criminal or moral character, especially for sensitive positions. Congress leaders have warned that if the BJP does not reconsider this decision, the party will intensify its protests from the streets to the Parliament in the future.

They emphasized that their protest is not limited to the selection of a single candidate but is against the BJP's policy of not valuing the hard work and loyalty of local workers. Several senior Congress leaders and workers were present during the demonstration, uniting to oppose the BJP's decision. They demanded that the BJP immediately withdraw this decision and select a candidate in the interest of Madhya Pradesh who can effectively voice the concerns of the state's public in the Rajya Sabha.

They also stated that if their demands are not met, they will broaden their protest to include public awareness campaigns and further demonstrations to exert pressure on the BJP.
