Residents Oppose Commercialization of Residential Zones, to Meet CM

Residents and civic organizations from various residential colonies in Bhopal have raised their voices against proposed amendments that would permit commercial activities in these areas. They have requested an audience with Chief Secretary Chandra Shekhar Valimbe to discuss the issue with the Chief Minister.

According to the Joint Residents' Struggle Committee, this meeting aims to present their objections to the proposed amendments in the Land Development Rules-2012 and to appeal for the protection of citizens' interests. The committee emphasized their support for the Municipal Corporation's actions against illegal commercial activities in residential zones, as per Supreme Court directives, stating their primary goal is to preserve the original residential character of the colonies.

Concerns Over Impact on City's Character

Resident organizations allege that the proposed amendments to the Land Development Rules-2012 are a move to legitimize commercial activities within residential areas. They believe that if these amendments are implemented, the residential character of many Bhopal colonies will be severely impacted, leading to negative consequences for traffic, the environment, security, and civic amenities.

Citizens from other areas of Bhopal, including Arera Colony, Shahpura, Gautam Nagar, and Rachna Nagar, have united in a public awareness campaign against these potential changes. They are organizing meetings and peaceful rallies in various colonies to register their objections.

Delegation to Present Concerns to Chief Minister

The delegation plans to apprise the Chief Minister of the entire situation and request his necessary intervention to protect residential areas and citizens' interests. This significant delegation includes distinguished individuals such as former Divisional Commissioner Kavindra Kiyawat, Kamal Rathi, Poornendu Shukla, Aparna Vashisht, Shubhra Goyal, Vivek Tripathi, Neeraj Gulati, Luvnish Bhati, Ajay Shukla, Mayank Nagar, and Pankaj Sharma. Representatives from various resident organizations of Arera Colony, Shahpura, Gautam Nagar, and Rachna Nagar will also voice their concerns.
