Sanitation Crisis Grips Ajnar Village

In Gram Panchayat Ajnar, Mahoba district, Uttar Pradesh, the sanitation system has collapsed due to widespread neglect. Mountains of garbage are accumulating in various hamlets and lanes, while drains are choked with filth and mud. Local residents report that a lack of regular drain cleaning for years has led to severe malodour and waterlogging, disrupting daily life.

Villagers allege that sanitation drives are merely symbolic, existing only on paper, while the ground reality is dire. Stagnant, dirty water from the drains is spreading onto roads and alleys, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. Residents also complain that sanitation workers have been absent from the village for many years, exacerbating the problem.

This situation poses a serious health risk to the local population and is a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other pests. The waterlogged roads are in a deplorable state, further hindering movement.

Villagers Demand Immediate Action

Residents of Ajnar village, including Gopichand, Abhinav, Ankit, Abhishek, Munna, Alok, and Surendra, among others, have expressed grave concern over the dilapidated state of sanitation.

They have demanded that the local administration undertake immediate drain cleaning, ensure proper garbage collection, and implement regular sanitation drives. The villagers state they have repeatedly appealed to local authorities, but their pleas have gone unheeded.

The inaction of the Gram Pradhan (village head) and other elected representatives has worsened the problem. Locals also noted that funds allocated for sanitation at the Gram Panchayat level are not being utilized effectively, leading to stalled development work.

The villagers have warned that if improvements are not made to the sanitation system soon, they will be compelled to file complaints with the concerned authorities and seek necessary action.

This situation also raises questions about the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission), which aims to promote cleanliness and hygiene in rural areas.
