Bridge Construction Demand Over Kharjhar Nala

Balrampur, August 2, 2026 - Villagers in the Harraiya Satgharwa development block of Balrampur district have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, addressed to Tehsildar Abhinav Singh Chauhan, demanding the construction of a bridge over the Kharjhar Nala near Khairhaniya.

The memorandum highlights that the absence of a bridge over Kharjhar Nala, which must be crossed to travel from Shivpura Bazaar to Devi Patan Temple or Kauwapur Railway Station, causes significant commuting problems for residents, especially during the monsoon season. Despite multiple surveys, no progress on bridge construction has been observed.

Children from the terai region, including poor students attending Government Inter College Mohan Lal Ram Lal Inter College Shivpura, risk their lives crossing the nala. This route is also vital for accessing the Community Health Centre Maharajganj Terai, Police Station Maharajganj Terai, Kauwapur Railway Station, and the district headquarters in Balrampur.

Furthermore, the route to Maa Patshwari Shaktipeeth Devi Patan Temple and Tulsipur Railway Station and Tehsil, via Semri Chowk and Mahmoodnagar Bazaar, is connected through this area. Therefore, the construction of this bridge is considered extremely important.

Villagers Protest for Bridge Construction

In a demonstration of their demand, villagers formed a human chain across the nala. Schoolchildren were symbolically helped across the nala by constructing a makeshift human bridge.

The protest was led by social activist Yugal Kishore Shukla Advocate, with a large number of villagers in attendance. Notable participants included Arun Kumar Mishra, Ajay Singh, Village Head Ram Niwas, Ram Gopal Verma, Shamsher Ali, Dharmendra Verma, Rajesh Mishra, Vijay Singh, Krishna Mohan Shukla, Chandra Bhushan Singh, Kishan Singh, Satyendra Gupta, and thousands of other residents.

During the protest, villagers also pointed out the erosion caused by the nala.

Assembly Election Boycott Threat Issued

Following the demonstration, a large sit-in protest and public gathering were organized. Villagers issued a stern warning: if the construction of the bridge over Kharjhar Nala does not commence promptly, they will boycott the upcoming Assembly Elections in 2027.

The villagers' primary demand is for the immediate completion of this crucial bridge project to ensure smooth and safe travel for the general public.
