Farmers Suffer Amidst Unannounced Power Cuts

Unannounced power outages by the electricity department in the rural areas of Guna district are severely impacting daily life. Villagers are forced to live in darkness due to prolonged power interruptions, ostensibly for maintenance during the day and load shedding at night.

Bamore MLA Rishi Agrawal has written to the state Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, demanding immediate intervention in this critical issue. The MLA has also informed the Energy Minister and local MP, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, about the problem.

Farmers Face Double Blow: Irrigation Halted, Crops Endangered

In his letter, MLA Rishi Agrawal highlighted that unplanned power cuts are ongoing day and night on the 33 KVA and 11 KVA power lines in Guna district. Farmers are bearing the brunt of this disruption the most.

Already struggling with insufficient rainfall and fertilizer shortages during the Kharif season, farmers are not even receiving the government-declared 10 hours of electricity supply for agricultural pumps. Disrupted irrigation poses a severe threat to the production of important crops like paddy, soybean, maize, and urad, leading to fears of significant financial losses for farmers.

Rural Life Disrupted, Health Services Affected

The electricity department continues to impose power cuts, citing maintenance during the day and load shedding at night. This disarray directly affects agricultural production.

In a season of low rainfall, when farmers critically need adequate electricity for irrigation, hours of power outages are undoing their hard work. The unavailability of electricity, the lifeline of crops, will not only affect farmers' incomes but also casts a shadow on the state's food security.

The impact of these erratic power cuts is not limited to farmers. In this period of intense heat and humidity, the lack of electricity has completely disrupted rural life. Children and women are battling mosquitoes and insects, increasing the risk of infectious diseases.

There has been a notable rise in snakebite and venomous creature incidents during the night. The MLA pointed out the tragic deaths of 13-year-old Dev Ahirwar from Vishnupura village and 12-year-old Sanjana Sahariya from Dongarpur village in the Bamore constituency due to snakebites amidst this power crisis, raising serious questions about the performance of local administration and the electricity department.

Threat of Agitation, Allegations of Broken Promises

MLA Rishi Agrawal stated that he had also informed the Managing Director of the Bhopal Electricity Board, Rishi Garg, by phone about the problem, who assured a swift resolution.

However, the MLA expressed dissatisfaction with the government's approach, accusing the state government of forcing rural citizens to live in darkness. He issued a clear warning that if the problem is not resolved immediately, he will be compelled to hold protests and agitations with the public, for which the state government will be entirely responsible.
