Massive Protest Erupts in Guna Demanding CEC's Resignation

A significant protest was organized in Guna on Sunday under the banner of Jan Sansad. The demonstrators vehemently demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, citing serious allegations of millions of voters being removed from electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, alongside accusations of vote theft and booth capturing.

The rally commenced at Shastri Park at 1:30 PM, traversing various routes before culminating at Hanuman Chowk. Here, a memorandum addressed to President Droupadi Murmu was submitted through the District Collector. The protest saw participation from representatives of numerous political parties, including the Congress, CPI, CPM, Samajwadi Party, and Shiv Sena UBT, as well as various civic organizations.

Allegations of Widespread Voter Exclusion

Prominent figures leading the rally included Bamori MLA E. Rishi Agarwal, Rajnish Sharma, and Lokesh Sharma. The memorandum detailed that approximately 13.39 crore voters across 30 states and Union Territories have been struck off the electoral lists. These deletions were categorized as 2.80 crore for the deceased, 6.30 crore for those who had moved, and 3.01 crore for the absent.

Questions Raised Over Election Commission's Impartiality

Jan Sansad alleges that eligible voters, particularly the poor, migrants, women, and minorities, were deliberately excluded from the voter list. Protesters described this action as a calculated conspiracy to disenfranchise voters. A public charge sheet issued by former bureaucrats and civil society members has also raised serious questions about the Election Commission's impartiality.

The charge sheet specifically mentions serious constitutional violations, including unauthorized changes to Form-6 (application for new voter registration) and the disenfranchisement of voters through the SIR process. Jan Sansad believes these events have tarnished the dignity and credibility of the Election Commission in conducting free, fair, and reliable elections.

Call for Restoring Commission's Credibility

Amidst similar protests nationwide, the people of Guna have actively registered their participation, emphasizing the urgent need for the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation to restore the commission's impartiality.
