A video originating from the Chhakratirth cremation ground in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, has gone viral on social media, igniting widespread anger among religious communities and local residents. The footage features an individual identifying herself as Kali alias Nandgiri, a Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhara, seen near a burning pyre with a sword.

The video claims that she was seen extracting and consuming human remains from the pyre. Following the emergence of this incident, the saint community and various Hindu organizations have expressed strong condemnation. Responding to complaints, the police at Jiwajiganj police station took swift action and arrested Kali alias Nandgiri.

Allegations of desecration and religious hurt

According to information received, the alleged video surfaced from the accused's Instagram account. It depicts her standing in the vicinity of a burning pyre within the Chhakratirth cremation ground environment. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the alleged claims made in the video and the visuals presented.

The rapid dissemination of this video on social media has drawn strong objections from a large number of people, who have described it as an act that deeply hurts religious sentiments. The saint community has expressed profound anger and accused a violation of religious feelings.

Police initiate legal action, FIR registered

After the video became public, local saints and various religious organizations conveyed their strong displeasure over the incident. They stated that cremation grounds and the religious traditions associated with funeral rites hold a special respect and sanctity. Such alleged behavior with any corpse or human remains is not only condemnable but also an act that seriously offends religious sentiments.

Protesting organizations have demanded a fair investigation from the police and strict legal action against anyone found guilty. As the matter escalated, the police took the complaints seriously and immediately commenced legal proceedings. An FIR was registered following an official complaint, utilizing relevant legal sections.

Legal provisions invoked, accused presented in court

Based on a complaint filed by the local Senapati Kal Bhairav Committee and Vishunath, the Jiwajiganj police station registered a case under Section 301 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 25 of the Arms Act. According to the police, Section 301 of the IPC specifically pertains to acts of desecration related to cremation grounds or human remains, which aligns with the nature of this case. Meanwhile, Section 25 of the Arms Act applies to allegations involving the unlawful display or use of weapons like swords, which is associated with the alleged act seen in the video.

Considering the gravity of the matter, the Jiwajiganj police station acted promptly. A special police team, led by City Superintendent of Police Pushpa Prajapati, arrested the accused Kali alias Nandgiri. Subsequently, she was presented before the court of a Judicial Magistrate, from where she may be sent into police custody for further investigation or face other legal actions as per the law.

Investigation into video's authenticity and digital evidence underway

The police are currently conducting an in-depth investigation into the authenticity of the viral video, the circumstances under which it was recorded, and the events depicted within it. The objective of this investigation is to ascertain when and for what purpose the video was created, and whether the object shown in it was indeed human remains.

Additionally, investigative agencies are scrutinizing all digital evidence related to the accused's social media accounts and the viral video. The police are attempting to determine when the video was originally uploaded and how it subsequently spread across various platforms. Police officials stated that until the investigation is complete and the full situation is clarified based on the available evidence, the veracity of the claims made in the video and the sequence of events cannot be fully confirmed.

Currently, following the arrest and FIR registration, the case is under legal investigation, and further proceedings will be based on the evidence collected.
