Protests Erupt in Jabalpur Over Proposed Medical Science University Bifurcation; Congress Demands Intervention

Concern and Anger Over University Bifurcation

Discussions surrounding the proposed bifurcation of the Medical Science University in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and the potential transfer of its significant functions to Ujjain have sparked widespread concern and anger among city residents. In response, the Youth Congress has submitted a memorandum to senior MLA Shri Ajay Vishnoi, representing the Patan Assembly constituency in Jabalpur, urging his immediate intervention.

The memorandum, submitted under the leadership of Youth Congress District Vice President Amit Sonkar, stated that the Medical Science University in Jabalpur is not merely an educational institution but a culmination of years of hard work, struggle, and aspirations for the entire Mahakoshai region. Its establishment aimed to strengthen medical education in the state and centralize it in Jabalpur.

Questions Raised on Institution Transfers

The Congress has expressed grave concern over a pattern of gradual weakening or transfer of prominent institutions from Jabalpur to other cities. The memorandum highlighted that the Dairy Science College was previously shifted from Jabalpur to Ujjain during Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav's tenure, and the current news regarding the Medical Science University is further escalating public anxiety.

The party questioned why, instead of positioning Jabalpur as a hub for key educational and health institutions, the rights and functions of existing establishments are being relocated to other cities. They further questioned the justification for consistently diminishing Jabalpur's developmental importance and institutional significance.

Appeal for Unity Among Representatives

The Congress has appealed to Jabalpur's elected representatives to rise above political differences on this sensitive issue and unite to strongly voice the collective will of the people of Jabalpur before the government. They emphasized that the public elected them precisely to effectively represent and safeguard Jabalpur's rights and interests.

Several Congress workers, including Rizwan Ali Koti, Badal Panjwani, Kapil Bhojak, Sagar Shukla, Mewalal Patel, Rinku Badlani, Ejaz Ansari, Adnan Ansari, Shafi Khan, Zafar Khan, and Syed Adeel Ahmed, were present during the submission of the memorandum.
