Forensic, Digital Investigation Workshop Underway in Bhopal

Bhopal | September 2, 2026 – The second day of a three-day specialized training workshop on forensic, scientific, and digital investigation, organized by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the Madhya Pradesh Police Headquarters, concluded successfully with various technical and scientific sessions. The workshop, held in Bhopal, aims to make crime investigations state-of-the-art, scientific, and based on robust evidence.

This training is being conducted under the guidance of Director General of Police, Shri Pankaj Srivastava, with support from Deputy Inspectors General Shri Saket Pandey and Shri Prashant Khare, and Assistant Inspector General Shri Manish Khatri.

Expert Sessions Enhance Investigative Skills

On the second day of the workshop, senior scientific officers from regional and state forensic science laboratories provided in-depth lectures and practical training to participants. These sessions covered crucial aspects of crime investigation, designed to enhance the capacity of police officers.

Forensic Physics and Voice Evidence Management

Dr. Poonam Singh, Senior Scientific Officer at the Regional Forensic Science Laboratory (RFSL) Bhopal, delivered a lecture on forensic physics and voice evidence management. She detailed the standard operating procedures for the scientific collection, preservation, and transportation of physical evidence to the laboratory.

Management of Chemical and Toxicological Evidence

Dr. Rajiv Dua, Senior Scientific Officer at RFSL Bhopal, shared insights into the intricacies of collecting and maintaining chemical samples, narcotics, and poisons. He emphasized that maintaining the integrity of chemical samples as legal evidence is crucial for successful investigations.

Biological Evidence and DNA Profiling

Dr. Kamlesh Katholia, Senior Scientific Officer at RFSL Bhopal, provided detailed technical information on the role of forensic science laboratories in the scientific collection, packaging, chain of custody, and DNA profiling of biological evidence such as blood, semen, hair, and saliva. He highlighted the importance of DNA evidence and the process of ensuring its accuracy.

Crime Scene Investigation and Crime Scene Kit Usage

Dr. Preeti Gaikwad, Senior Scientific Officer from the District Scene Crime Mobile Unit, Bhopal, demonstrated the practical use of a Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) kit. She explained crime scene management, priority-based identification of evidence, and secure seizure procedures, teaching participants how to prevent scene contamination and properly document collected evidence.

Ballistics Evidence and Doubt Resolution

Shri Ramda Kenesh, Senior Scientific Officer at the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), Sagar, conducted training on ballistics evidence management. This session extensively discussed the collection, preservation, and FSL testing procedures for firearms, used cartridges, bullets, and gunshot residue (GSR). Practical doubts raised by participants were also addressed at the end of the session.

Workshop Concludes Tomorrow with Photography Training

The three-day workshop will conclude on September 3 in the presence of Shri Pankaj Srivastava, Special Director General, CID. On the final day, Additional Superintendent of Police (Photo) Shri Amitabh Tiwari from the CID Photography Branch will provide special training on crime scene photography, digital evidence presentation, and its judicial authentication.
