Hospital Erupts in Chaos After Mother and Newborn's Deaths
Farrukhabad, August 8, 2026 - Major SD Singh Medical College and Hospital in Farrukhabad witnessed significant unrest on Saturday following the deaths of a woman and her newborn daughter during childbirth in the Narainpur locality.
The family has accused hospital doctors and staff of grave negligence, delaying the handover of the bodies, and resorting to violence when confronted. In protest, irate villagers blocked the Etawah-Bareilly highway near the village of Vijadharpur, causing severe traffic disruption.
Allegations of Negligence and Violence
Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Narainpur who supports his family by selling papdi, stated that his wife, Savita, was admitted to the medical college hospital on Friday after experiencing labor pains. Savita delivered a healthy baby girl on Saturday morning.
According to Jitendra, hospital doctors and staff initially assured the family that the mother and child were in stable condition. He even held his newborn daughter for a while.
Sudden Deterioration and Death
However, the family alleges that shortly after, the hospital informed them of the baby's deteriorating condition and subsequent death. Soon after, they were told Savita had been put on a ventilator, and subsequently, her death was also reported.
The family further claims that hospital staff obtained thumb impressions on some documents from them. When the family members demanded the bodies of the mother and child, an altercation ensued with hospital staff.
Physical Assault and Injuries
It is alleged that as the dispute escalated, security guards and staff physically assaulted Jitendra and other women from the family. The family also claims that during the protest, the wheel of an ambulance ran over the leg of Jitendra's elderly father.
According to the family, the hospital administration provided no clear information regarding the bodies of the newborn and the mother, leading to deep anger among the relatives.
Highway Blocked in Protest
Upon learning of the incident, a large number of villagers gathered at the scene. Expressing their anger towards the hospital administration, the villagers blocked the Etawah-Bareilly highway near the Reliance petrol pump opposite Narainpur around 3 PM.
Long queues of vehicles formed on both sides of the road, bringing traffic to a standstill for a considerable period.
Investigation and Action Demanded
The family has demanded an impartial investigation into the entire incident and stringent action against the responsible doctors and hospital staff. The region is currently experiencing a tense atmosphere following the incident.
Upon receiving the information, local police officials, including Kotwal Fatehgarh Tej Singh, Station House Officer Kadri Gate Kapil Kumar, and Central Jail Chowki In-charge Shiv Kumar, arrived at the scene. They pacified the aggrieved family and convinced them to lift the blockade.
The police have assured that the bodies will be sent for post-mortem examination and that action will be taken accordingly.
