MP Police Inaugurates Forensic and Digital Investigation Workshop

To this end, a three-day special training workshop on forensic, scientific, and digital investigation, organized by the Police Headquarters, Bhopal, commenced today, September 1, 2026. The workshop is scheduled to continue until September 3, 2026.

Objective: Modernizing Investigative Techniques

Under the direction of Special Director General of Police Mr. Pankaj Srivastava and the guidance of Deputy Inspectors General Mr. Saket Pandey and Mr. Prashant Khare, along with Assistant Inspector General Mr. Manish Khatri, this training aims to equip police officers and investigators with advanced forensic and digital techniques. The workshop was inaugurated at 10 AM today, with senior officers presenting the detailed outline of the training and briefing participants on its objectives.

Comprehensive Training Modules

Through these training sessions, police personnel will receive in-depth knowledge on crime scene evidence collection, preservation, scientific testing, modern crime investigation techniques, forensic science, and the practical application of digital tools. Emphasis will also be placed on the scientific and legal use of digital evidence to strengthen the investigation and inquiry with logical and scientific evidence, ultimately aiming to increase the conviction rate.

Expert-Led Sessions

Senior scientific officers, forensic experts, and senior police officials from the state are imparting training during this workshop. Initial sessions focused extensively on various aspects of forensic science. Director, Fingerprint Bureau, Mr. Manoj Rajput, discussed modern methods for developing latent fingerprints found at crime scenes. He provided information on crime scene inspection, seizure procedures, fingerprint examination in disputed documents, preparing search slips using inkless pads and live scanners, and legal provisions related to NAFIS (National Automated Fingerprint Identification System) and MCU (Mobile Crime Unit) systems.

Document Examination and Digital Evidence Integration

Superintendent of Police, CID, Mr. Rituraj Gupta, addressed the first part of questioned document examination, explaining the importance of such documents in the modern criminal justice system, their classification, and examination methods. He also highlighted the seizure of suspicious records and the fundamental principles of their examination. In the second part of questioned document examination, Mr. Gupta provided practical insights into signature and handwriting comparison, identification of forged documents, methods for collecting standard comparative specimens, and related case studies.

Leveraging E-Governance and Digital Platforms

Special technical sessions were conducted by expert officers from the State Crime Records Bureau, Police Headquarters Bhopal, focusing on the practical application of portals like e-Sakshya, e-Vivechana, e-Raksha, and ICJS (Inter-operable Criminal Justice System) in investigations. Participants were trained on crucial topics such as digital evidence uploading, digitization of case diaries, and the integration of court-prosecution data. This session underscores the growing importance of digital technologies in police investigation and their efficient utilization.

Upcoming Sessions and Future Impact

Upcoming sessions will cover vital subjects including forensic physics and physics evidence management in voice analysis, forensic chemistry and toxicology, forensic biology, serology and DNA analysis, crime scene investigation, using crime scene investigation kits, ballistics, CID photography, and court certification. These sessions aim to equip police personnel with expertise in the scientific analysis and presentation of various types of evidence.
