Karwa Chauth Observed with Fervor in Narsinghgarh
The auspicious festival of Karwa Chauth was celebrated with immense devotion, faith, and joy in Narsinghgarh, Madhya Pradesh, on Saturday, October 30, 2026. Married women observed a difficult day-long waterless fast, praying for their husbands' long life, prosperity, and marital happiness.
Rituals and Observances
In the evening, women performed the Karwa Chauth Mata puja with traditional rituals and listened to the sacred story, awaiting the moon's rise. The wait for the women, who abstained from food and water all day, ended around 8:30 PM.
Amidst a peek-a-boo with the clouds, as soon as the moon was sighted, women looked at the moon and then their husbands' faces through a sieve with a lit lamp. Following this, they offered 'arghya' (water oblation) to the moon, accepted water from their husbands' hands, and completed their waterless fast. This tradition is considered symbolic of a husband's long life and a happy marital union.
Market Buzz Affected by Weather
The markets in Narsinghgarh had witnessed a special rush of shoppers for the past three days in anticipation of Karwa Chauth. Women purchased special beauty products, attire, and other essentials for the festival.
However, the sudden change in weather on the festival day and intermittent rain caused a slight slowdown in market activity late in the evening. Conversely, the cooler weather provided some relief to the fasting women from the day's intense heat.
The presence of clouds caused a slight delay in moon sighting, requiring women to exercise additional patience. Nevertheless, the joy of the festival doubled upon the moon's appearance. The enthusiasm of women in every household was remarkable, reflecting their deep faith in this ancient tradition.
