Corruption Allegations Escalate in Gram Panchayat Barohi

The case of irregularities in development works and the use of fraudulent muster rolls in Gram Panchayat Barohi, under Janpad Panchayat Ater, is intensifying. Amidst allegations of suppressing information sought under the Right to Information (RTI) Act and alleged financial misappropriation of crores of rupees, the current Sarpanch, Akash Soni, and the former Panchayat Secretary are accused of destroying ground-level evidence out of fear of legal action and imprisonment.

On-record video evidence is reportedly available concerning these accusations. The matter gained further seriousness when the President's Secretariat summoned the Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh and a central ministry, causing a stir among local administration and concerned officials. The complainant, social activist Alok Parashar of Gram Barohi, filed a first appeal with the Development Commissioner's office in Bhopal on July 29, 2026, due to the lack of local action.

First Appeal Filed Against RTI Obstruction

According to social activist and legal representative Alok Parashar, between 2022 and 2026, Fino Bank accounts were allegedly opened in the names of poor women, and their ATM cards and SIM cards were held captive for four years. During this period, crores of rupees are alleged to have been misappropriated. Parashar had previously sent complaint letters to the CEO of Janpad Ater, the Vigilance Commission, the Superintendent of Police Bhind, and the Collector of Bhind, demanding action, but no substantial action was taken.

Facing obstacles in obtaining information under the RTI Act, he officially filed a first appeal with the Development Commissioner's office in Bhopal on July 29. This appeal was filed due to the lack of action from local authorities.

Demand for FIR and Forensic Audit

Legal representative Alok Parashar has demanded the immediate registration of a named First Information Report (FIR) and the arrest of the current Sarpanch Akash Soni, the former Secretary, and the Fino Bank agent, based on orders from the Chief Minister's office. Furthermore, he has requested a forensic audit of the bank accounts.

Parashar has warned that if a named FIR is not registered by the police-administration within seven days, the case, along with postal receipts, government acknowledgments, and video evidence, will be directly taken to the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
