Farmers Grapple with Fertilizer Scarcity in Ajnar

Mahoba, October 27, 2026 - Farmers in the Ajnar region of Mahoba district are confronting a severe fertilizer crisis during the crucial Rabi sowing season. A seven-day indefinite strike by cooperative society secretaries over salary hikes and discrepancies has completely disrupted fertilizer distribution.

Despite a significant stock of DAP fertilizer available at the Ajnar Sadhan Sahkari Samiti warehouse, the main gate remains locked, preventing this essential input from reaching farmers. Sources indicate approximately 550 bags of DAP are secured within the warehouse.

Strike Paralyses Distribution, Farmers' Hopes Dashed

However, the distribution work has ground to a halt due to the ongoing strike by the society's secretaries. Some farmers received tokens for fertilizer distribution last Wednesday, but the process was halted by a technical glitch, immediately followed by the strike, extinguishing farmers' hopes.

Local farmer Madhav Kushwaha reported visiting the society for six days with tokens, only to return without fertilizer. Similarly, Ramkumar from Khoi village, who completed farmer registration eight days prior, has yet to receive even a fertilizer token.

Growing Farmer Distress and Fear of Crop Losses

An eerie silence prevails at the society premises, with farmers leaving disheartened due to the lack of fertilizer. They have expressed deep concern over the situation, noting the absence of any alternative distribution arrangements despite adequate stock. The Rabi sowing window is rapidly closing, and delays due to fertilizer scarcity are feared to adversely impact crop yields.

Farmers are also worried that if distribution is not resumed soon, the upcoming Rabi crop sowing could be severely affected. They are urging the administration to intervene immediately and ensure an alternative system is put in place for timely fertilizer distribution.

Call for Urgent Administrative Intervention

Affected farmers are demanding the district administration's swift intervention and the establishment of alternative arrangements to restart fertilizer distribution without delay. They wish for their problems to be understood and for fertilizer availability to be guaranteed, enabling them to sow their Rabi crops without hindrance.
