Major Crackdown on Illicit Liquor in Guna

Under the directives of Collector Kishor Kumar Kanyal and Deputy Commissioner of Gwalior Division Sandeep Sharma, an intensive campaign against the manufacturing, sale, and storage of illicit liquor is underway in Guna district. In a significant development, a joint team of the Excise and Police departments, guided by District Excise Officer Guruprasad Kevat, executed a major operation in the village of Rajpura.

The operation resulted in the seizure and on-site destruction of illicit liquor and a large quantity of jaggery-mahua 'lahn' (fermented mash), estimated to be worth around five lakh rupees. The raid, led by Raghogarh Circle Officer Mohnish Sharma and Police Station In-charge Ajay Jat, targeted the Kanjar settlements in Rajpura in the early hours of Tuesday.

Extensive Seizure and Destruction of Illicit Materials

During the search, hand-distilled liquor was discovered hidden in plastic cans concealed amidst the rocky terrain and dense bushes. Additionally, substantial quantities of jaggery-mahua 'lahn' were found in large plastic drums and in illicit underground vats.

The joint team confiscated a total of 40 liters of hand-distilled liquor and 3400 kilograms of 'lahn'. Samples of the seized materials were preserved for testing, while the vast majority of the 'lahn' was destroyed on the spot. The total estimated value of the confiscated materials in this operation is approximately five lakh rupees. This action is considered a crucial step towards curbing the illicit liquor trade in the region.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

Three separate cases have been registered under sections 34(1)(c) and 34(1)(f) of the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act, 1915. Currently, joint teams of the Police and Excise departments are working to identify the accused and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

The role of Excise Constable Dinesh Kumar Rathore and Lady Constable Jemma Ekka, along with other police personnel, was commendable in this joint operation. The department has reiterated that such actions against poisonous liquor and other illegal activities will continue indefinitely to effectively control criminal activities in the area.
