Farrukhabad: Efforts to Improve Road Safety Intensify Following Strict DM Directives

District Road Safety Committee Meeting Held

Farrukhabad | September 22, 2026. In a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee held at the Farrukhabad Collectorate auditorium under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Dr. Ankur Lathar, stern directives were issued regarding the reduction of road accidents and strict implementation of safety standards in the district.

The meeting included a detailed review of the current road safety situation, the causes of accidents, and the steps being taken for their prevention. According to data presented, there was a 16.27% decrease in the number of road accidents in August 2026 compared to the previous year, while fatalities in road accidents saw a 8.69% decline.

Focus on Safety Measures and Infrastructure

Despite the overall reduction, the involvement of two-wheeler vehicles in accidents remains a significant concern. Out of a total of 323 accidents so far in 2026, 211 involved at least one two-wheeler, resulting in 134 fatalities.

The District Magistrate emphasized identifying potential hazardous spots beyond black spots and implementing protective measures. He directed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to complete toll plazas and ongoing construction work within the stipulated deadlines. Specifically, a work plan for the repair of the Ramganga Bridge was requested within the next three days.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the quality of pothole filling work on the road from Mohammada to Kali River Bridge, the District Magistrate ordered full road coating along the entire stretch.

Trauma Centre Functionality Questioned

The District Magistrate expressed deep displeasure over the Trauma Centre in the district not being fully operational and demanded immediate clarification from the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). He instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to clear overgrown bushes along the roadsides to maintain visibility and reduce the likelihood of accidents.

Emphasis on Awareness Campaigns

Police Superintendent Aarti Singh, along with officials from various departments, was present at the meeting. The District Magistrate particularly stressed the importance of conducting comprehensive public awareness campaigns in schools and public places.

He believes that effective control over accidents can only be achieved by making the general public aware of road safety.
