Family Planning Awareness Campaign Launched in Balrampur
Balrampur, August 4, 2026 – A special awareness campaign was launched in Balrampur district on Tuesday with the objective of disseminating the importance of family planning and the message of small families to every household. District Magistrate Vipin Kumar Jain and Chief Development Officer Himanshu Gupta flagged off the family planning awareness van from the Collectorate premises.
The campaign aims to sensitize people towards family welfare through various means. It is being organized by the Family Welfare Department in collaboration with Mobius Foundation and Population Foundation of India. Through this initiative, people will be informed about modern family planning methods, the significance of maternal and child health, and the benefits of building a healthy and prosperous family.
This initiative will specifically focus on rural and urban areas where access to family planning services and information might be limited. The campaign will utilize audio-visual aids, street plays, and public gatherings to ensure the message reaches the general populace effectively. Health workers deployed with the van will also provide individual consultations and assist those in need with necessary materials.
Role of ASHA Workers Emphasized in Rural Areas
During the event, the District Magistrate interacted with the attending ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers, acknowledging their direct connection with people in rural areas and their crucial role in effectively delivering the family planning program to every household. He instructed the ASHA workers to address misconceptions about family planning, provide proper counseling to eligible couples, and ensure information about available health services reaches every eligible family.
“ASHA workers are the first link in community-level health promotion, and health-related goals can only be achieved with their active participation,” the District Magistrate stated, emphasizing their vital role.
Chief Development Officer Himanshu Gupta also lauded the efforts of the ASHA workers, recognizing them as symbols of trust in rural communities. He urged them not only to provide information but also to encourage eligible couples to adopt various family planning methods.
“Providing clear information about different permanent and temporary contraceptive methods, explaining their benefits and usage, and dispelling any doubts will be the responsibility of the ASHAs,” Gupta added.
Awareness Van's Extensive Tour
The awareness van will tour various villages across the district, educating people about temporary and permanent family planning methods, maternal health, the benefits of maintaining appropriate birth spacing, and the availability of health services. The campaign will also ensure widespread public awareness through promotional materials and other mediums, including posters, banners, pamphlets, and local radio.
The Chief Medical Officer stated that the campaign aims to transform family planning into a social movement where every citizen actively participates. He expressed gratitude to all health department officials, ASHA workers, and concerned authorities present at the event, stressing the need for collective effort to ensure the campaign's success.
