South Central Railway has cancelled several popular daily express trains to Visakhapatnam due to Cyclone Arnab's expected impact.
The Cliff News | 27 October 2026
South Central Railway (SCR) has announced the cancellation of multiple daily express trains bound for Visakhapatnam, including prominent services like Godavari, Gautami, and Visakha. The decision comes in anticipation of Cyclone Arnab, which is forecast to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and surrounding regions over the next two days.
Railway officials are urging passengers to exercise caution and verify their travel plans. The cyclone is projected to make landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam, near Yanam, on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, as a very severe cyclonic storm.
Train Services Disrupted Amidst Cyclone Threat
In response to the impending weather conditions and to ensure passenger safety, SCR has implemented a series of cancellations, diversions, and rescheduling of trains operating through the potentially affected areas. This measure aims to maintain smooth train operations while prioritizing the well-being of travellers.
Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager of SCR, emphasized the railway's preparedness by reviewing safety arrangements in vulnerable sections and critical infrastructure like bridges. He also inspected patrol deployment plans and assessed water levels in sensitive locations.
Emergency Preparedness Under Review
The readiness of emergency resources has been a key focus. Srivastava confirmed that essential supplies such as boulders, sandbags, and ballast rakes are in place. Furthermore, Accident Relief Trains (ARTs) and Accident Relief Medical Equipment (ARME) have been strategically positioned at Kazipet and Dornakal for swift deployment if necessary.
Officials from the operating, engineering, electrical, mechanical, commercial, and medical departments have been placed on high alert. Continuous, round-the-clock monitoring of train operations, the condition of bridges, and water levels at vulnerable points is underway.
Passenger Information Channels
Passengers seeking the latest updates on train status are advised to utilize official railway platforms. These include IRCTC, RailOne, and NTES. For direct inquiries, passengers can call the railway enquiry number 139. Information regarding cancellations, diversions, and rescheduling will also be disseminated via SMS, SCR's social media channels, and the official SCR website.
