Congress Stages Strong Protest Against Medical University Bifurcation

The Congress party in Jabalpur has strongly protested the state government's preparations to bifurcate the Medical Science University, located in Jabalpur, and transfer a portion to Ujjain. This move is being met with significant opposition.

Rizwan Ali Koti, spokesperson for the City Congress Committee, issued a statement asserting that this decision will adversely affect the interests of millions of students, researchers, and doctors in the Mahakoshal region. The Congress denounced the action as an infringement upon Jabalpur's rights and vowed to oppose it at every level.

Historical Significance and Objectives

According to the Congress, the Medical Science University was established in Jabalpur in 2011 after prolonged struggles, public movements, and tireless efforts by student and youth power, spearheaded by the NSUI. Its primary objective was to transform the Mahakoshal region into a robust hub for medical education and research.

“The state government's preparations to bifurcate the Medical Science University and shift a significant part of it to Ujjain are extremely unfortunate and contrary to public sentiment.”

Opposition to Established University's Division

The Congress clarified that while they do not oppose development in any region, they consider dividing an established and successful university and relocating it to another place to be unjust. The party believes the state government should establish new universities if it wishes to create new institutions.

However, they stated that any compromise on Jabalpur's rights and its historical achievements will not be tolerated. The party views this as a direct attack on Jabalpur's heritage and progress.

Warning of Widespread Public Movement

The Congress has demanded that the state government immediately halt the process of bifurcating the Medical Science University or transferring any of its departments from Jabalpur. They warned that if this demand is not met, student organizations, public representatives, social organizations, and the people of Jabalpur will be compelled to launch a widespread public movement through democratic and constitutional means.

The Congress cautioned that the state government will bear full responsibility for any such public movement. The people of Jabalpur are united in protecting their rights and strongly oppose the division of the Medical Science University. Leaders including Badal Panjwani, Kapil Bhojak, Sagar Shukla, Amit Sonkar, Rinku Badlani, Ayush Paharia, Shafi Khan, and Ejaz Ansari have warned of a phased movement against the government.
