Congress Protests Proposed Bifurcation of Medical University in Jabalpur, Submits Memorandum
Jabalpur Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, opposing the proposed division of the Medical University and demanding its retention in Jabalpur.
Opposition to Medical University Bifurcation
In protest against the proposed bifurcation of the Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University, Jabalpur, Congress office-bearers in Jabalpur submitted a memorandum today to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan through Divisional Commissioner Smt. Divya Awasthi.
The memorandum strongly demanded that the university be retained in Jabalpur in its current form and that its administrative and academic capabilities be further strengthened. Congress leaders stated in their memorandum that the concept of the Medical Science University was conceived in 2003 and it was established in 2011.
They highlighted that the university is a significant and historic achievement for Jabalpur and the entire Mahakoshal region. Over its approximately 15-year tenure, the university has made substantial contributions to medical education. Currently, over 100 medical and affiliated colleges, thousands of students, and hundreds of teachers and staff operate under its purview.
Accusation of Tampering with Historic Achievement
The memorandum emphasized that dividing an established and well-functioning university would not strengthen medical education but would instead increase administrative complexities. It would also weaken Jabalpur's historic academic identity.
Congress office-bearers argued that if the administration faces any difficulties, the solution should be to strengthen the university's administrative system, not to bifurcate it. Those who submitted the memorandum stated that this unprecedented achievement, which Jabalpur received in 2011, should not be taken away under any circumstances.
They demanded that the university's headquarters and its current structure be maintained as they are. Prioritizing the interests of the state's medical education, the proposal for bifurcation should be immediately rescinded. Several Congress office-bearers, including Rizwan Ali Koti, Badal Panjwani, Kapil Bhojak, Amit Sonkar, Sagar Shukla, Rinku Badlani, Ayush Paharia, Shafi Khan, Zafar Khan, Anurag Shukla, Ejaz Ansari, Adil Sayyed, Waqar Khan, and Yug Thakur, were present on this occasion.
