Congress Highlights Chaos at Moong and Urad Procurement Centers

Congress leaders have exposed serious disarray at the Moong and Urad procurement centers established for the Rabi season 2026-27 within the Sagar district's agricultural produce market committee premises. The inspection, led by former Madhya Pradesh Minister for Agriculture and Cooperation, Surendra Choudhary, revealed that the claims made by the state administration were unfounded.

During an impromptu visit early Saturday morning, Congress members found the procurement center in a state of neglect. The center's manager and other responsible officials were absent, with only a surveyor present who could not provide satisfactory answers to their queries. The operations were found to be in direct violation of government rules and directives.

Damaged Produce and Lack of Transparency

Water was observed leaking from various points inside the building, leading to the spoilage of procured produce and other materials. The procurement records were also not maintained systematically, raising concerns about transparency. This situation directly contradicts the assurances provided by the administration regarding the smooth functioning of these essential facilities for farmers.

Former Minister Demands Action

Witnessing these serious irregularities, former minister Surendra Choudhary immediately contacted the Sub-Divisional Officer, Sagar, Rohit Verma, and officials from the Civil Supplies Corporation and Agriculture Department via telephone. He informed them about the gross negligence and violations of rules in the operation of the procurement center.

“The procurement center must operate according to the rules, and farmers should be provided with all possible facilities. The concerns of our farmer brethren will not be tolerated in any way,” stated Choudhary, demanding an impartial investigation.

Administration's Apathy Questioned

Expressing concern over the lack of facilities for farmers, former minister Choudhary questioned the administration's seriousness in ensuring the smooth operation of the Urad and Moong procurement centers. He alleged that the procurement center run by the marketing federation was operating arbitrarily and disregarding rules.

The absence of responsible staff and the prevalent disorder directly expose the hollowness of government claims. Choudhary warned that the Congress party would not remain silent if any negligence occurred at the procurement centers or if farmers were harassed. He urged the administration to ensure that all procurement centers operate according to regulations, maintain adequate arrangements, ensure the presence of responsible staff, and guarantee the safety of farmers' produce.

Several other Congress officials and workers were present during the inspection, including Block Congress Committee President Pt. Ravi Umahiya, Youth Congress District President Sandeep Choudhary, former Sarpanch Harprasad Ahirwar, Congress Scheduled Caste Department Chairman Arvind Panthi, Youth Congress former President Raja Singh Bundela, Youth Congress Block President Rahul Kushwaha, and Engg. Satyam Singh.
