BJP Criticizes Punjab Govt's Handling of Employee Protests

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab regarding the ongoing agitation by state government employees and pensioners. BJP National Spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia alleged that the government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is adopting a strategy of pressure tactics instead of seeking a resolution through dialogue on the legitimate demands of the employees.

Bhatia termed the government's working style as 'Hitler-like' and contrary to democratic values. He claimed that approximately 3 lakh government employees and 3.5 lakh pensioners in Punjab are protesting their various pending demands. The primary demands of these protesters include regularization of government jobs, payment of arrears in dearness allowance (DA), and the re-implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). Bhatia stated that these issues are directly linked to the economic future of the employees and the security of their families.

Allegations of Crushing Democratic Rights

The BJP leader targeted Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, stating that when the Aam Aadmi Party was in opposition, it recognized protests by employees and common people as their democratic right and strongly supported them. However, after coming to power, the party's stance has completely changed.

He accused the government of imposing unfair conditions to end the strike instead of engaging in meaningful dialogue with the protesting employees to resolve their issues. Bhatia leveled serious allegations against the Punjab government for crushing the democratic rights of the employees. He emphasized that the government should listen to the voices of the protesting employees and address their problems.

Bhatia clarified that the concerns of the employees are not limited to salaries or allowances but are also tied to the economic stability and future security of their families. He urged the government to immediately engage with the representatives of the protesting employees and make a clear, time-bound, and practical decision on their pending demands.

Accusations of Double Standards Against AAP

The BJP spokesperson accused the Aam Aadmi Party of adopting 'double standards'. He said that AAP used dharnas, protests, and agitations as an effective democratic weapon during its political journey, but now, after coming to power, the same party is attempting to suppress the movements of its own employees.

Bhatia stated that a government's responsibility is not only to ensure the smooth functioning of the administrative system but also to understand and resolve the problems of its employees and citizens. He demanded immediate action from the Punjab government. He urged the government to initiate talks with the representatives of the protesting employees without delay and to find a permanent solution to their issues at the financial and administrative levels.

Path of Dialogue, Not Confrontation

The BJP leader stressed that instead of merely postponing or ignoring the demands of the employees, the government should find a permanent solution to their problems financially and administratively. He specifically expected the government to clarify its position on critical issues like pending dearness allowance, regularization, and the old pension scheme.

Gaurav Bhatia underlined that in any democratic system, open dialogue between the government and employees is the most effective and positive resolution to any dispute or disagreement. The BJP urged the Punjab government to abandon its policy of confrontation, engage sympathetically with the employees, and ensure a permanent solution to their problems.
