Food Safety Department Launches Extensive Campaign in Bhind
The Food Safety Department in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh, has initiated a comprehensive campaign aimed at curbing food adulteration. Under the directives of Collector Kirodi Lal Meena, a team led by Food Safety Officer Mrs. Kiran Senger conducted surprise inspections of various establishments along Ater Road and near the Railway Station.
The primary objective of this campaign is to ensure the quality of food products and remove expired or substandard items from the market. During the inspections, the Food Safety team effectively utilized a mobile food laboratory to conduct thorough quality checks on essential food items such as dal, cumin, fennel, various spices, tea leaves, and biscuits.
Expired Goods Destroyed, Quality Checks Conducted
In a significant action, 86 packets of namkeen, snacks, and sweet supari past their expiry date were discovered at Shivam Kirana Store. The team promptly destroyed these substandard products on-site to prevent them from reaching consumers. A crucial part of the quality check campaign focused on sweet shops, including those of Kallu Halwai and Pappu Halwai.
Food Safety officers examined samples of sweets like mawa barfi, ladoos, milk cake, and sonpapdi. Lab Chemist Ms. Aarti Shivhare analyzed these samples. The shop owners were given essential instructions regarding strict adherence to food safety regulations to ensure consumers receive safe and quality products.
Nutrition in Anganwadis and Schools Under Scrutiny
The Food Safety Department also extended its inspection scope to Anganwadi centers and schools operating under the Supplementary Nutrition Program on September 22, 2026. Mrs. Senger visited an Anganwadi center in Kushwah Colony to assess the quality of food served to children, providing necessary guidelines for improvement.
Additionally, the Mid-Day Meal at PM Shri Government Middle School SAF Battalion was inspected. Samples of turmeric, chili, salt, and mustard oil used in the food prepared by the Shrikrishna Self-Help Group were collected and sent to the laboratory for testing, with reports pending. During this initiative, students were also taught simple and effective methods for identifying adulteration in food items, fostering awareness among them.
